I have no problem paying for what we use, I've just never had a car from a company that gives loaners so I wasn't sure what the standard protocol was. I don't think we got any paperwork stating this dealer's policies.

Its doubtful that dealers will actually have a policy/protocol in writing... I know Tustin Infiniti didn't when I got loaners from them - neither did Pacific Ford when I got a loaner...

I think Tusti Infiniti might have mentioned it verbally... but more of a customary thing... they never checked the gauge when I returned it. Its not like when you rent a car, they document mileage and fuel in and out... with loaners they didnt even inspect for damage (like they do rentals).

Like I said before, its just common courtesy - even though I'm sure some kooks take advantage as ***** it all up.

The dealers here in MA requires you to replace the gas you used. They have a sheet with the amount of gas in the car when they loan it to you.

Personally I think when you go in for warranty work they should replace the gas you use to get there and back.

Our paperwork does state that we return it at the same gas level that we got it. We put gas in it today.

at my dealership they will charge you $5 a gallon for every gallon they have to put in if you don't fill it back up. I only got a loaner once and it was given to me with a full tank

Agreed. They should also replace the gas they use while driving your car for road tests.

They put 20 miles on mine when it went in for compression rods.

I've given my loaners back with 1/2 tank. My commute is way too long to put 1-2 gallons in. My last '08 G35x had over 100 miles put on it by me in the 24 hours I had it. My dealer has been good to me and fix EVERYTHING i complain about if its minor. I'm not gonna complain about giving them an extra five gallons.

My wife has a Renault and their loaner comes with an empty tank. They're conveniently next to a Shell though.

Nissan and Subaru always have the tanks full on their loaners and they tell me not to put gas in it.
