my friend has a heat gun that he is letting me use this weekend. I want to remove everything on the rear what are the correct steps and what chemicals do i use to prep/cleam surface before and after?

also...just making sure, everything IS glued on correct?? nothing is going to leave a hole is it?

thanks

p.s. a DIY would be nice

If you really want to do this right...

You will need

Hair dryer is all you'll need for heat.
fishing line.
Goo gone
A 50/50 mix of rubbing alcohol and water
A finger nail
Your favorite wax.

Now, take the hair dryer and heat up the emblem for about a minute to help soften the glue.

Take the fishing line an work it in a saw motion behind the emblem to cut through the glue.

After you have the emblem off, you can grab your hair dryer and heat the glue again a bit to re-soften it

Now take your fingernails and gently pick/ rub what you can off of the paint being carefull not to damage the clear coat.....using the goo gone will help disolve it.

Take the alcohol mix and neutralize the goo gone so it won't eat at your clear coat and will remove slight residue.

Wax and admire your handywork.

you're gonna melt something or burn off the paint with a heat gun. do like ^ said and use a hair dryer. also, nothing is glued. it is double sided adhesive foam.

The way I do it (heat gun this things hot as ****) if you can't hold it an inch from your hand for 30 seconds then your paint can't either. Do it in bursts and don't just leave it there for time, you'll bake your paint.

^a heat gun an inch from your hand for 30 seconds will set your hand on fire...heat gun an inch from your hand for 5 seconds will give you a third degree burn.

I've always used some amount of heat, but many people don't even use a hair dryer, just rip the emblem off with some fishing line and call it a day.

I just debadged my car on a hot summer day, you don't need that much heat although it just makes it a little easier. The shadow goes away in a couple of weeks so don't worry about that.

I followed that video that someone posted on here about debadging. The guy used a blow dryer to heat the emblems, fishing line or floss to remove them, then used Turtle Wax - Bug and Tar remover spray on the left over adhesive, sit for 5 minutes, wipe off and use blow dryer on the adhesive for 5 minutes and you can rub it off with your finger. If it doesnt come off, add more bug and tar remver a few more times and heat.

If you have a sedan, be prepared to look at 2 holes in your trunk. I forgot what years it was though.

fishing line or dental floss works best with a blowdryer..dont need any nail polish remover or googone or any sh* like that, youll eff up the clear coat..just use some wax or claybar kit to clean up..take your time. youll see some ghosting but it will fade eventually
