New G35X Owner...can I install a factory Navigation system if I don't have it??
I recently purchased a pre-owned 2007 G35X. This is my first infiniti and I love it. It doesnt have Navigation however, it has the monitor and bluetooth. After researching, it seems like I need a DVD unit installed in my glove box. Is this true? Where can I purchase this and what else do I need? The most important question is, will it work??

If your car has the LCD then it has the DVD installed as well. Look at your glove box, the upper portion will flip *up* and expose a disc drive. The previous owner must have removed the DVD before selling it to you, which is unfortunate as they are kinda expensive.

Nav isn't all it's cracked up to be, mine is pretty wack.

G35 sedan w/ too much money in mods
Blain she's got an 07 sedan. They all have the display but not all have nav, hence the DVD.
G Girl check this section and post up in there. You might get a quicker response. https://g35driver.com/forums/g35-sedan-v36-2007-08-217/

G Girl, welcome to the club. Yes, you can most likely add the OEM Nav to your car, but it's not a simple procedure and it's not all that cheap (from what I've read), and in the end you still have the factory Nav, which isn't as good as a good aftermarket Tom Tom/Magellan/Garmin.
And please post no0dz as soon as you can. I don't like to look at a G35 pic when it's wearing anything, especially those slinky 2nd Gens.

Yeah, it'll be damned expensive and require a new wiring harness. Best bet is to just buy a garmin, since as a 2007 sedan, even an aftermarket double din with nav is pretty much out of the question.
There is a garmin external unit that'll connect to the AV inputs in your center console though.

I agree, it prob would be cheaper and easier to buy a garmin, but a factory navigation setup looks a lot more appealing than a suction cupped $100 garmin.
Of course, i'm not sure the cost of adding an OEM setup in this case would be worth it. I'd imagine it would be several grand and tearing your entire dash out to accomplish this.

Not shown is the DVD-disk reader that fits in the pass side upper glove box. Wow, you'd think someone would rather do a DD NAV setup vs going through the trouble to swap all that? The OEM nav isn't just NAV. It does vehicle maintainence, fuel economy, alerts you to if a door is open and you drive off, and uses vehicle speed to determine position when you are in a tunnel...so there is a lot of stuff to swap and connect to.
The 07+ sedan uses a hard-drive based system, which also stores audio music. So something tells me it would prob be more complex vs a 1st gen NAV system.

Thank you!
Wow, I didn't know so much work was going to be involved. I really don't mind not having a NAV system. I was just curious if it can be done in the future. For now, I guess I'll continue using my Magellan GPS.
Thanks for the heads up on the leg humping as well. This is my first Infiniti! Any tips, news, etc. please let me know! I've uploaded a pic of my new (for me) baby...
Thanks Guys!

to me those are just little extras and I myself wouldn't use them everyday
buy a decent Nav around $1000 and you will be more than happy.
Buy a $150 scangauge and it will tell you alot more than just fuel economy

I almost considered buying an '06 nav unit off of eBay and installing it. Came with everything in that picture (plus DVD reader) except the full wiring harness. I think it just had the pigtails that plugged into the unit itself. Not sure if you can splice those into a non-nav harness or not. The guy seemed to think you could because he had purchased it to install in his Coupe, but ended up wrecking it. I think it sold for around $300-$400.
Oh well, I probably would have gotten in over my head and then my wife would have made fun of me.
