g35 worth buyinG?

Test drove a G today. they wanted 22thousand for a

2006 6 MTG35 Coupe 27k miles. PREMIUM with nav and 19'' forged.

i shifted from 1-2nd and heard a weird clunk, thought i was still trying to get used to it, 3rd had a weird..rattle it sounded like. makes weird sounds when i shift.

and is this also normal? the freaking shifter like VIBRATES in gear, in neutral...and sometimes it doesnt even shake, other times its like a vibrator. after i toss a shift it feels like the stick wants to budge out back to neutral, but it doesnt.

is this worth buying?

Don't gun it when making a u turn... as for the 2006 coupe for 22k you can get a v36 2007 sedan for that price which a big upgrade over the previous generation

That prices is pretty much spot on for a 2006 6MT Coupe with the Premium package and 19" wheels. KBB shows $22.5K for a Private Party sale. There are only a couple of 2006 6MT's on Autotrader that are less than $22K. About the same number of 2007 G35 Sedans. Honestly, that's a pretty good price. 6MT's are hard to find. If you like it, then haggle them down and buy it, but it's about as good a deal as you're going to find for a car with those options.

Make sure you run a Carfax on it first, and take it to a mechanic.

I got a '06 G35 Coupe 6MT with 27k on the clock for $22.9k. No nav, but came with sports package. I was looking for ~5 weeks within 500 miles (on autotrader) then expanded my search to "any distance" and that was the cheapest i found

You might want to get a trusted mechanic to take a look at it. That weird rattling/vibrating in gear may become a larger issue later on if the car doesn't stay in gear (I am not a mechanic, just speculating based on your post above with the weird nose and feeling the shifter is trying to budge back to neutral). I haven't driven many MT cars, but all three of the ones I have had don't do that (95 z28 6MT, 08 altima 3.5se 6MT, and 88 prelude 5MT). They make a smooth schick (sp) sound when shifting into gear and feel pretty planted in whichever gear I shift into. My G is the AWD version and I never test drove a G 6mt so I am unsure if that is normal for a 6MT G. Best to get it checked out before dropping 22K on it. Good luck.

depends on what your tolerance to vibration and clutch and MT gear box synchro is. I had an 08G35S and 6th gear seems to want to pop out at certain speeds and rpms. But then again even BMW 3 series has trouble with vibration on the stick and 1st to 2nd gear clunk and shifting troubles. I can tell you my 08G didn't clunk, that's for sure. Was just the clutch pedal travel from fully depressed to gear engagement point was too long and springy. There are threads on here for mods that shortens the travel. IMO if you have any doubts during test drive already, don't buy it at any price considering there may be other symptoms you won't know until you have to live with it. but then again it depends on you and your urgency to get into one.

x2. I had a 2007 G35 w/ sport package and have a g37 now, and I still miss my g35 at times. Just for reference, I bought my G35 over 2 years ago for 24k out the door with 14k miles on it. 22k seems a bit steep.

You need to ask them for a leak down test before you buy. You also need to know that it will burn oil if it doesn't already and no matter what someone else will say in this thread later on THEY ALL burn oil eventually - There are plenty of people with less than 40k miles who had that problem. You also need to know that around 40k-50k-60k the valve covers will leak oil inside the spark plug tubes and they need to be replaced before that happens. About $300-350 in parts to change those covers.

After you buy one you also need to go to the dealer and do a oil burn test and do one up until the warranty expires as it will possibly start to burn oil out of the blue - watch oil level in between oil changes as it will run out over the course of only 3k miles and it's Bye Bye motor.

The valve covers leaking is still an issue to this day on ALL Nissan models with a VQ35 or VQ37 - but it is a normal wear and tear maintenance. Some other makes are the same way.
