5A/T question

Canadian is swapping from 5AT to 6MT because the 5AT that he had built burned up on him. 6MT handles boost much better.
Most people who want an automatic that is boosted don't go over 400 whp and are careful not to just "jump" into boost because of the shock to the transmission. I've seen people do LS-X swaps and if they stay auto they get the T400.
All in all, I'd say unless you plan to go boosted right away, just throw in the Transgo shift kit, change out the Final Drive and you'll have a much more fun vehicle to drive.

If you want to go over 600 wtq, then you are taking a risk, but below that a 5AT will be competitive with 6MTs with up to 100 whp advantage (thanks to no drop in boost between shifts and quick shift times). Driving a 6MT with 600 whp is not for the feint of heart. A 5AT makes it easy. On a 6MT, you get much over the 700 whp range and you have to be very selective with parts to get any life out of them, so it's an expensive proposition either way in regards to the build up and ongoing maintenance if you're shooting past the 600 whp mark.

The reason it burned up has nothing to do with the fact that it is a 5AT . 500 wtq going on 20k miles here with no issues.

Titans use the same transmission. You just need to keep it cool as you put more power through it. If we had a way to increase line pressure through reprogramming, we wouldn't need the mechanical valve body upgrade either. UpRev has been able to reprogram some TCMs (but I think they only do it on a one off basis).

This topic has jumped around so much... are you wanting to upgrade the car or not? Or are you just wanting another gear while keeping the car pretty stock?
Again... getting a different rearend (like 4.0 gears) with a higher final drive seems to be what you're looking for, no? It will also be cheaper to get a different gear for the rear end changed than it would to be add another gear to the 5AT - or swap another trans in.
Unfortunately, these new Nissans are not like the old domestics. Parts are NOT so easily interchanged - not to mention the ECU is going to freak when it has another gear to work with... don't forget there are computers for the 5AT that control shifts in ever aspect and they also communicate with another computers around the car like the main ECU and traction control system, etc... 5AT's are not even compatible between some years...
