Benz + Nissan = New G?

http://www.roadandtrack.com/future-c...wered-nissan-z

I just got road and track in the mail today and this was the first article I saw.

When it was announced that Nissan/Renault was partnering with Daimler-Benz, we didn’t have a clue as to how close this relationship would be. We’re now hearing that it will be quite close, with the two companies planning to extensively share platforms and engines. The first reports from Japan suggested that the next-generation Infiniti G sedan and coupe, as well as future M sedans, will be built on the Mercedes-Benz E-Class platform.

Most likely for European and Japan market.

I doubt diesel engines will make it into US.

Our diesel fuel is much worse than European one and emission standards much higher cuz of that so that's why you don't see allot of diesel engines in cars here.

Jesus christ. The last time another company used the E-Class chassis it was Chrysler. They used it for the 300C and the charger? They were great cars for Chrysler but they were heavy as hell. The G will end up being more of a bloated goat the it already is. Ugh

I did not read the article posted by OP but out of those that I read about this partnership I got the idea that they only swapping engines.

Nissan/Infiniti giving MB their small 4 banger engines and MB giving them their diesel ones.

Nothing about swapping platforms.

Is this not correct? They are swapping platforms now too?

I just read that article and I think is a bunch of BS

it does not make any sense.

why make Z less powerful than previous models and more powerful than GTR? That just makes no sense at all.

Road a track is full of ****.

Engine options. One with less power, one with about the same and one waay more powerful.

I just don't think Nissan would farm out the chassis engineering to another company. Not the Z. And not on old sedan chassis

Working on European cars are a pain. They build them as if a specialized mechanic/oem tech will be working on it.

Japanese cars are built more mechanic friendly

^+1... but i do admit the idea of a 500/600 BHP AMG engine in a G is mind twisting lol

honestly i would just love them to do a true sport line with included supercharger or turbo

Hondas, most Toyotas and most Nissans are, but Lexus and Infinitis are a bit more pain in the *ss. Bimmers and Benzes aren't that much different... they just require different (procedures?)

The V35 is pretty simple, even the spark plugs where everybody complains about being a PITA is fairly easy for me.
