It is easy to work on and most Miataphiles do all there own maintenance. It was never made to go fast in a straight line. It comes to life when you hit the twistys...heel and toe...keep the revs up in the power band...slam that short stock shifter thru the gears. My car will turn 21 years old this December and I enjoy driving it every bit as much today as I did in 1990. I don't enjoy driving it more that my 2003 G coupe, they are just two very different cars meant to provide a very different driving experience. The Miata is the largest selling sportscar ever made and Oh Yeh the original body style was designed in California and then shipped to japan for the mechanicals to be added.
That's awesome, I wonder how well our G's will fare in 21 years of ownership? Not that I plan to find out haha. And agreed on everything you said about Miatas, cannot hate on those cars. When I bought my vehicle it was a toss-up between G35, S2000, or Miata. In hindsight I still kind of regret not getting an S2000.

Well tragedycat I may be able to report back to you on that one. My coupe will be 8 years old in December. It currently only has 19,000 miles on it and I have no plans to sell it, like the Miata, ever. The only problem is not the car, it's me...when it's 21 years old I will be 76. If I'm lucky and don't need too have much maintenance I'll get back to you.

I can appreciate the performance of BMW cars. I can believe that in many cases they are a little better than the competition. But, I have several partners who own them (and have owned them for years) and man do they spend a ton of money keeping them running. Constant, expensive problems. And apparently the dealerships think it is just a normal part of owning a BMW. High performance, high maintenance.

Having said that, I'm fairly new to Infiniti but I have two. No complaints or issues with the 07 G35X except the chipping paint on the steering wheel and the totally counter-intuitive Nav system. I think Bill Gates must have had a hand in that mess.

My 06 Coupe 6MT is a joy to drive at 75K miles. Steering, brakes, suspension, gear box, engine, all great and great fun. And it still looks great and sounds awesome. But the interior of that thing is so cheap, tinny and rattly it is kind of shocking. Reminds me of an American car from the early 80's. So, if it still makes top ten of the decade I figure that the drive train must be the best there is to overcome the chintzy interior.
