Should I Get a Optima Red Top or Yellow Top Battery?

hello everyone,

heres my little story, i went to my car this morning to start my car and i turned it fully and nothing. i was like WTF? i then turned my key to the ON position and my headunit turned on. So i waited like 2 mins then i tried to turn on my car and it started. now i know it has to be the battery b/c i stopped by gas station and filled up my G then started it again and it struggled for like 2 seconds to start then it eventually started. So i was reading on the forum on how OPTIMA RED top and YELLOW top batteries are good.

The yellow top is better for cars that have a audio system and such correct? Well i have a Pioneer headunit and a 10 " Alpine sub and kenwood amp in the rear. Now the Red top is $159.99 and the YELLOW TOP is $199.99, since i have a audio system you think its worth the extra $40 to get the yellow top?

just wanted to get a few opinons.

thanks for your time.

how long have you had the yellow top installed on your G?

and how do i know if my G still has the factory battery installed? do you know what brand the factory battery is? since the 3 years of owning my G i never replaced my battery so im guessing i still have the stock battery from 2004.

a few months back I replaced my 5+ year old OEM battery... I did the same searching you are doing and came to the same conclusion (initially) - I set out to find Optima Red (or Yellow)... they are IMPOSSIBLE to find local retail... I went to every auto-parts store chain in So Cal - nothing... although I did find yellow top at AutoZone (I think) - but the posts were backwards and I didnt want to stretch the cables...

Anyway, long story short - I needed a bat so I just went to Costco and bought a Kirkland battery (about $100 cheaper than Optima) and realized it was a better choice (for me)... There isnt any reason for a high priced battery unless it's being shown or you have MOSTEROUS audio - beyond what almost all out here have.

My engine bay is pretty tidy and custom and I'm still perfectly happy with the $70 Kirkland battery
