Like I said I enjoy keeping everything I own immaculate, you could eat off my garage floor, our house is always spotless, and yard always looks amazing, I just like taking care of what i own, unlike many people today.
....^....this is called "Pride in Ownership" you maintain or improve upon what you own, and I thought it was just my OCD.

KSWAY, you don't belong here! It's just a car....It's just a wife....It's just a kid....It's just a home....they all deserve respect and care, something I guess you don't get.

Benz, Lex, BMW you name it; I see dozens of them every day that have wheels totally ruined from brake dust.
My in-laws have two Mercedes that are like this plus a slew of mechanical issues and exterior damage. Funny thing is that father-in-law bought them as status symbols but can't be bothered to maintain them or pay someone to properly maintain them for him.

To me, the car is an extension of myself, and it always will be. If it is presentable in such a way that people notice that I take care of my own property, then chances are, they can look at me in the same light. It is all about impressions to me. Yes, you can say it is "impressing people you don't know." But, growing up with very little as a kid, I was always taught to take care and respect your own property, especially since my car is something that I worked VERY VERY hard for. So why would I not want to take care of it?

I agree with Hotel as well. It isn't so much about washing the car and keeping it clean, but it is also about good general maintenance practices as well. There is a reason why a lot of the maintenance that is performed is called "Preventative Maintenance" practices. Some people may call it a waste of money and time, but I call it taking proper care of your vehicle so it doesn't fail on you when you're out driving 100 miles home.
Totally agree. These are the same people who's cars break down "randomly" And your avatar makes my pants tight.

I guess they could be here to get DIY advice, but typically anyone who does DIY on these cars is someone who is going to care if they get a scratch or a ding.
Me too...

The people who give up caring after a few dings is what leads to everything else falling apart. Don't know how many of you are old enough to remember how nasty Manhattan used to be. Guiliani came in and started cleaning things up by removing the graffiti in the subway cars and look how much it has improved now. True story. You have to not let the little things go or else it just snowballs. This was how I was raised as well.

My cars aren't pristine. I do keep up a strict maintenance routine and fix larger dings and scratches as quickly as possibe. I have a few small dings and knicks here and there and I wash them maybe once a month because of crappy weather but I respect those who are meticulous with the upkeep.

I am with Gary and G2Flip... but... to each his own.. If you have a nice car and you don't take care of it...

I will think of that person the same way I think of people with fast cars... that slooowly get on the freeway and slowly drive in the fast lane...

YOU are a FKN IDIOT.

..but that is my humble opinion.

i wipe clean both my g and my '06 limited 4runner every night, regardless of whether i used it that day plus a quick swab of "tire black" on all tires. both are garaged and i would never park either one outside... problem is, when going to work, i always get stuck on which car to use.. 2 clean cars staring back at you everyday..

If you think it's a shame that people don't take care of the cars they own then you should see how they treat loaners.

My 2005 G35 is at the dealership getting the airbag recall work done so they gave me a 2009 G37 Sedan as a loaner. Now I had a G37 as a loaner about a month ago when I took my wife's car in and it was in great condition, clean inside and out, and was a LOT of fun to drive. But this loaner - clean on the outside but the interior is dusty, carpet and floor mats have stains, and the transmission seems to drag when switching between 1st and 2nd gear along with dragging when you take your foot off the accelerator when coasting. It really is a shame for such a nice car - really needs some TLC.

I talked to the service manager about it when he called to tell me my car was ready. I'm sure they'll take care of it - hopefully before they give it to the next person.

I think that's just how the car runs. I have a G37 loaner, brand new, only 4 miles on the odo when I drove it. And it still runs like crap. Very bad acceleration lag and the "dragging" feeling when you let go of the gas.

I think this is normal. It's the car downshifting to rev match or something. But it does feel like crap.

I actually have had people walk by and laugh at me or smirk at me while I wash my car thinking I am stupid and should pay someone to do it. Like its so odd that I care for my car

They say smart *** comments like you wash soo much that your paint is going to come off, etc. In my head i am like first of all i hate to drive a dirty car . Before the G i had a crappy Altima which i stilled cleaned once a week. It makes me feel good getting into a clean ride.

Next time politely tell them that it's quite the opposite. That you wash off contaminants that will damage the paint and then you protect it with a 5 minute wipe-down with a quick detailer.
It's their paint that is going to dull, rot, flake and/or rust off the car because they do nothing to protect and preserve it.

I typically wash my car once each week. I've done it twice in one week for some special occasions. My neighbors always comment -- I know they think I'm some sort of obsessed freak.

Right now, I'm eying the Porter Cable complete detailing starter kit from Detailed Image. As soon as I get that, I'll be even more of a "freak." Can't wait!

Being OB,I see every speck of dust, light scratch, dead bug..you get it.
Now,I got the car for a DD because my drive to work is an hour or so and wanted some comfort and also felt like giving myself a bitchin birthday present.
I get much more enjoyment than I ever anticipated with it,so I am very protective of it.
I don't have a garage and working 2nd shift means lotsa dead bugs and the long drive usually means I will encounter dust and road grime.
So this means it gets washed often, sometimes twice in one day. Yeah if it gets $h1t on by a bird,it gets cleaned.
Rock chips...don't even get me started...Fish
