I'm not sure. They had to remove a lot of things because I took it in for the following reasons:

1) air bag recall
2) sun roof popping on incline/decline
3) gas tank refill issue

After they fixed you gas tank issue, did you have a strong gas smell inside the car? They told me to fix the car they had to remove the seat to get at the gas tank, so I guess the gas smell is to be expected.

Last time I took SLICK to the dealership for window motor issues I told the service manager that I didn't want their wash guy touching my coupe. When I picked her up he told me I'd hurt the wash guys feelings buy not allowing him near her....tough ****! It only took me an hour in my garage to get all the dirty fingerprints off and she wasn't damaged. If all else fails, print yourself a sign and leave it on the windshield along with only dealing with the service manager. For some reason they think they're doing us a favor by washing our cars....

Nope. No gas smell. Not even from the 1st day I picked it up after the repairs.

But they did have my car for about a week. So maybe the fumes just went away.

Then they use a towel with the same grit and grime on it to dry the car. I would guess there's more damage done by hand washing than automatic washing. Bottom line: if you want the car cleaned right... clean it yourself!
Good point...

No, No, No... come on guys. It's the Infiniti Dealer not some corner repair shop. If you told them not to wash your car, then they should make sure they get it right. The same thing happened to me TWICE. UNFREAKING BELIEVABLE! Both times I told the service adviser "NO WASH". They left swirl marks all over my black paint. This was after I just had it detailed to remove all of the swirl marks left by the previous owner. I went back and complained. The service adviser offered to have the dealer detailer take out the swirls and I refused. I wanted my own detailer to do it. They would only compensate me what it would cost them to do it. They then offered an outside detailer that they use on bigger jobs. I spoke to that detailer and still wasn't satisfied. I knew I wasn't going to get them to pay for my detailer costs, so I compromised with the service manager for 3 free oil changes ($150 total). I don't go to Kearny Mesa Infiniti in San Diego anymore, but I learned a thing or two since then. I printed and laminated a sheet of paper with the words in big font stating " NO WASH" "NO VACUUM". I leave it on the center console when I have my car serviced by Infiniti. I also tell the service adviser the same thing. Ever since then I haven't had any problems. Don't let them get away with that bullsh*t... Get something for all of your troubles. It's not freaking rocket science. It's just poor communication on their part.

What he said! You should probably rebuff it yourself. You're more likely to do a better job and you don't want to risk them screwing things up again.

Next time go into the dealership with "DO NOT WASH" written in the largest font possible, and tape it to the driver's seat or steering wheel.

OP, the dealership should at least cover the costs for new buffing supplies

I usually put a full sized sheet of paper on the instrument cluster or radio that says "DO NOT WASH"

I don't think the lot guys read the service orders... they just get a call from the service department that says "take this car back, it's done" and that's it. So unless the Tech. reads that line of the work order and relays that you don't want it washed to the lot guy, then it falls through the cracks.

Dealerships in general are not looking out for you! They are in business to make money and the flat rate techs get paid by book time and if they get a 2 hour job done in 1:30 they get paid the 2 hours and can move to the next job. I despise taking my cars to dealerships!
