Intake question

A girl backed into my car (actually flew into it) anyway I got to cleaning my intake and I see this...

and

No idea when this happened I can only assume its when she hit me back in late May/early June. I have been driving around with it could this have caused any damage to my motor, with no air filter? I have since JB welded it closed.

(gash is about an inch thick and 1 mm wide)

Smaller pics, and your close up is not in focus, use the "Macro" mode on your camera. Put your thumb next to the gash to help the camera focus.

But any how do you live in a sandy environment? Send your oil next time you change it to Blackstone labs, it can show you the silicon levels in your oil which is dirt.

^ click on the pic in your album and then mouse over the pics and a bar will appear on the top of the pic, select resize and do 800x600 or 1024x768.

No idea how sandy that area is, but have you changed your oil since the accident till you plugged it up?

since you changed your oil already prob most if any dirt ingested is out. You can do a UOA on your next oil change and see how silicon is.

More Silicon in your engine = more wear.

Like I said do a UOA on your next oil change, if everything is normal its all good.
