If I had to take a guess, I'd say because of the weight.

OP, nice project! though i must admit that, despite being a Supra owner myself, i would have had a tough time choosing between a 2JZ swap and an LS swap. any reason you went with ARP head studs? i didn't read through the whole thread, but i'm assuming you're planning on upgrading that GT35R pea shooter turbo and aiming for high HP, or else you wouldn't have invested in aftermarket head studs?

i'm not sure where you got your information, but unless a stock G35 coupe weighs in around 3150-lbs (and i know it doesn't even come close to weighing that little), there's no way it weighs 300-lbs less than a stock MKIV Supra Turbo. the lightest G35 coupe i've ever seen weighed in at just over 3400-lbs, and the heaviest ones i've seen (those with the most options) on a scale weigh in closer to 3500-lbs. i can confidently say that, given the various option packages available on the G35 coupe, and given that the car could have any number of modifications done to it, some are going to weigh less than an MKIV Supra Turbo, and some are going to weigh WAY more...

if you want to compare apples to apples, a stock N/A MKIV Supra is a good 100-lbs less than the typical G35...granted i know an N/A Supra is not going to keep up with a G35.

Curb weight 1,460 kg (3,219 lb) (non-turbo)
1,550 kg (3,417 lb) {turbo}

the turbo weighs almost exactly the same as an 04 coupe and less then any g made after 05

never understood why people just blurt out incorrect curb weights when they are all readily available on the internet

i still want a turbo sc300 or is300, like a supra w/o the huge price tag, sc300s are arguably better looking too

Im resurrecting this post in hopes of some clarification. Ive got a club member whos planning on doing this and he mentioned something about the g35 ecu being used as a "ghost" ecu and essentially running 2 ecus for this swap.

Is this the case? Or, is the 2jz ecu the only ecu thats required? If it is, how did you do it? Was it simply taking the g35 harness and matting it to the 2jz harness? Ive got some experience in this area having thrown an h22 into an ej2 civic, however that obviously was going honda to honda, not toyota to nissan.

I realize this thread is a year old, but I was hoping for some insight. Oh, and ive visited your site, but again.... it doesnt say much about the electronics side of things.

Appreciate the link, but it looks like he went with a full out AEM EMS, so neither ecu was used. LoL, and from what I quickly read, the OP in that thread wouldnt know either...

Yea, apparently (after you read through a few pages) the OP of that thread was trying to pass that swap off as his own work, when in fact he bought it that way. Lol, busters...

This is a few months back but hoping the OP can answer a few questions. What I like to know is would the STOCK 2jz with its twin scrolls drop right in? Looks like this will only work if you went with a single upgrade? It also seems the Apexi SAFC ( which is incredible) is being used so this means you guys have too be running on a OEM ECU. Eventually it seems best that stand alone is used for future tuning.

The idea of this swap is just perfect. I would totally do this swap over a ls swap any day. All i see is ls here and ls there. We know it can be done and its cheap.. ( for a reason) but it just doesn't have the glamor and respect like a true inline 6.

Now the true questions at hand also is, was the 2jz used for this swap a front sump or rear? As many might not know but there are a few variations of this motor ( because of chassis layouts on different models that came with the 2jzgtte).

Anyways, Great swap and only wish California emission would permit such freaks on the roads. But if I had a choice ... it would've gone straight into a MK3 chassis and keeps its spirits flying.

BTW... the 2jz is a bit overrated ( sorry to say it but its true). Anything mechanical will always break. The 2jz just has a better streak of keeping itself together better. No aluminum block will hold its own against iron blocks.
