Yea' it's an 'aquired' taste. But works really well. And... say you're pulling out of your subdivision onto a highway, rolling in 2nd and wind er' up to 3 grand plus, then slip to 4th, wind er' up again... then 6th. The sound of the lil' G pulling 2nd, then 4th isn't so terribly bad.

Yea' well... 1>3>5 or 2>4>6 is an option. Long as it's not bogging down the lil' VQ that could does it well indeed.

Rear end dope = grease = lube = fluid, etc.

We used to call it "dope" because it's sooooooo freaking thick. Think of the thickest head-e-ist guy you know... like say a 'dope'.

OK, I think I am going to change the fluids soon.

I think I'm the only one to never want to start rolling in 2st gear, I'll only use 2>4 if I am already moving.

+99999 I can't stand autos... I end up stomping on non-existent clutch pedals...

gas prices aside, how do u guys feel about cruising in 5th gear at about 3k rpm? I really don't like the power I have with 6th at say 50-60, but i want to preserve the engine the best i can. Am I being too **** by making sure I am ending up in 6th?sdfg432333

You'll like what changing the fluids do! (Royal Purple wouldn't be all bad either.)

Oh, didn't mean to like EVER start from a dead stop in 2nd. However... if you're rolling at all, down to 3mph and especially if you're doing between 5 & 10mph there isn't a need to have the gear reduction that 1st has at all.

Hey, I here ya' there!!!
Oddly enough if you're from the UK or anywhere in Europe for that matter you'll be hard pressed to find auto's. Like my daughter has a dear friend that lives in the UK and he nor anyone in his extended family has EVERowned a car with an auto slushbox. When he was here for 2 weeks in Sept, he was amazed that we had three cars with auto trannys, only my 6mt was 'acceptable'.

Royal Purple gear lube is used in both the gearbox and the rear differential?

I don't see a problem with it. As with everything else, driving a manual is more about 'feel' than a carved in stone manual on how to drive.

OTOH one way to seriously tell if your in the right gear when upshifting is listening to the valvetrain. We know the ECU learns how you drive, as you drive. It'll also survive on less than "premium" gas. That being said; if you upshift when going slow you will surely hear a mechanical clu-clu-clu-cla-cla of the valves no matter what gas you've got in it.

I was thinking about that this week with all the talk of mechanical clunking sounds being discussed. Not saying this is what some are hearing, but it's certainly possible. (Especially if not really winding er' up when shifting and not running premium all the time. )

FWIW... Actually the higher the octane, the higher the flash point, with the end result being it takes a hotter flash to fire. It's weird but 87 octane actually fires easier than 91 and puts it's power out quicker. Where you get engine knock is engines running hotter and detonation happening in the cylinder easier, sometimes before the proper ignition timing cycle has been completed. Hence moving to 91 (or better) stops the engine from early detonation allowing higher running temps, as well as higher operating rpm's.
