What would you do?

First of all... I am not sure if this is in the right category.. if its not.. sorry.

I just wanted to get some members advice on something that happened to me this week through the forum.

I bought a set of Tanabe Springs from a member on this forum through the marketplace. I paid $130 +$20 shipping (Shipping was quoted to me prior to payment). 3-4 days after I send the payment I get an email from the seller stating the shipping was an extra $30 and he didn't ship the springs I purchased and told me I needed to send an extra $30 if I still wanted the springs. (The seller sent the first picture below to me when he sent that extra money email, of course I thought that was the box the springs were being shipped in) I told him that I did not expect to pay more than charged initially and after going back and fourth a few emails I told the seller I wanted a refund.

Again, after 3-4 days I get an email from the seller saying "Sorry I didn't send your refund yet but I "lost my debit card and can't put money in my account, (I didn't know you needed a debit card to go to the bank and deposit money) but if you still want the springs I guess I will still send them to you.

I said sure, for $130 which I had already paid, I would take them and he doesn't have to refund my money. A few days later he shipped the springs and the pictures below shows what I received today.

First concern is that the box is completely different than what he sent in the first picture. Did he change the box and packing materials after I didn't give him more money to save on packing expenses?

Secondly, he just threw the springs and shocks in the box with no packing material to stop them from banging around.. he did a crappy tape job, and basically did the worst packing job ever.

As you can see below, the box is destroyed, one of the studs from the shocks are sticking through the box, one of the studs from the shocks are now broken off, the boot on the shocks are all torn apart. Also the 2 places on the wall of the shocks that are for bolting onto are bent and twisted now. The springs are pretty beat up as well.

To me this is complete bullsh**. I paid through paypal and I can request a refund through them, but that would mean I have to send them back and that would cost me $50 to ship back.

I guess I am not sure what to do....

Any Advice?

Picture of the box he was trying to "ship" when he tried to get more money from me.

Picture of the box he actually shipped when he finally decided to send to me instead of refunding my money

Can't you do a chargeback or something through paypal? The guy obviously screwed you from beginning to end. If I could get my money back or get my credit card company to reverse the charge, I would just do that and **** sending him back anything. Or at the very least have him send you shipping first if he wanted the stuff back.

I would file a claim regardless. 50 bux is less than 130. Hurry i know they grace period.\

edit....was the sale for the struts too or just the springs?

they are still usable on yours if it was just the springs

What's his screen name?

You should edit out yours, and his address from the pic.

If I did a chargeback with my bank I would be doing a chargeback to "paypal" not the seller, which would probably screw up my account with paypal.

About a month ago I bought some clear corners on ebay through paypal and they got water in them on during my first car wash 3 days after I installed them. They were $20 so I didn't want to ship them back (would have cost me $5+ to ship plus my time), so I requested a refund through paypal because the seller refused to give me my money back, even though I sent pictures of the water in them. Paypal said they would give me a refund, but their policy is that I have to send the item back to receive it. Its obviously bullsh**, but I would have to pay $50 to ship them back just for paypal to issue me a refund.

Like i said they can be put on yours. You dont have to ship them back as long as that wasnt part of the agreement. I know who OP is but from what i gather is they had the spring mod done to them too. Either way its upto now.

The sale was for the springs and the struts. I can can still use the springs with my struts. But now the springs are even more beat up now that they bounced around inside a box on each other for 3000 miles.

Its not that I can't "make them work" but the thing that really pisses me off is that I have to now instead of just popping mine off and throwing the new ones on I have to change out the struts on the front springs.

Plus, its really its really pisses me off because the seller was like "look bro, I am not trying to screw you over.. I do this all the time.. look at my iTrader score...

Then he fuc** me over like this.

I understand i think you should pm him about the refund and try to work it out. I was just saying as a last resort they would work on yours if you didnt want to pay shipping. Either way its going to be on you. Out 50 bux and no springs. Or put yours on and save the 50.

What do you mean there is a "spring mod"? I was never told by the seller they were modded..

It said it in the for sale thread. I just read the whole thread. You should probably go back and read it.

thanks Project... just read it and realized the "spring mount" was on the strut itself... first time for modding springs for me.

So I might need to use my own struts anyway... but either way I feel like I got bent over..

Yeah springs are springs, even if they get beat up, no big deal, they go under the car and will get rocks and dirt and dog **** on them anyways.

If the deal was for springs AND struts, I would file a claim with paypal. It's free and you have 90 days to file a claim.

The springs look like they would work, but they look all scratched up from the poor packaging. I wouldn't install that on my car.

The struts look beat up.

Of course, no one is going to look down and see if there are any scratches on the springs.

He should have at least packed a bunch of newspaper all over to prevent it from moving around.
