WEhistling problem when accelarating on cols start

I have an 06 Coupe. Wen I start my car after a cold night in Boston, for the first 10 minutes there is a strange whistling sound when I'm driving and accelerating. Even after my car has warmed up it makes this noise. This is something that recently started happening? What might this be?

My 04 sedan does the same thing under hard acceleration if my car is cold. I never really thought anything of it though, just figured the tranny was cold or something.

In for an explanation!

It's difficult to pin point a noise like this when none of you have listed your mods. If all you've done is added an intake/z-tube check your connections, but if you have a spacer I'd re-torque your bolts but only when it's cold. The only other area that would make a whistle would be a vacuum hose or fitting....check everything!

Turn off your heat and accessories.. Worked for me. Not sure if we are experiencing the same sound but the symptoms sound identical.

Is your car MT? Same thing started with me after my 30,000 mile service. I know it was the oil but not sure if it was the tranny or real differential that caused it. I believe they used royal purple. I'm at 50k now and I'm used to it, it's just starting to do it again now because of the cool weather, no biggie.

My 06 6MT Coupe made a wailing/whistling sort of noise the other day on our first real cold day this year. It only made the noise above 3000 rpm. Just reving the engine did not do it and it seemed to be coming from the tranny area. As soon as the car warmed up it stopped. No performance issue when it was going on and none after. We've had two much colder mornings since then and it has not reoccurred.

I'm not going to worry about it. Got an oil change coming up. I may get them to look at the tranny and diff fluid.

I think most 6mt's do it in the cold. Mine does it everytime it drops below 40

My 6mt started doing this today for the first time. It stopped after the car got up to temperature. We are experiencing record low temperatures here in the south though. I'm not really worried about it.

Your probably getting the noise from the transmission. Seems like it's pretty common.

I'm getting the same noise. I tried switching trans and differential fluids to Amsoil this summer but it seemed to make the noise louder. I might try Motul or Mobil 1 next.

Other than being unusually cold outside, I thought it might have something to do with me changing out the diff and tranny fluid. I also used Amsoil. The whistle climbs in pitch with the rpm's between 2 and 4k. I don't have a CAI and it's not a vacuum leak or a window seal problem. It's gone after the first mile or so right after a cold morning start.

We're having freakishly cold weather here....12 degrees tomorrow morning....and I'm way down in the south and it isn't even winter yet. But, the car is doing it everyday now. Goes away in about a mile. I have not tried turning off the heater yet but I don't know how that could be it since it is related to a certain rpm level (and I never use the AC/auto in the winter.)

It does it with or without the heat on.
