$17 or $11 for a quart of gear oil?
$17 or $11 for a quart of gear oil?
Ok so I called up Infiniti for some M/T oil and he was like it's $17+tax I told him why it's so high and Nissan told me $11 he said it's not the same tranny oil that Nissan sells.I told him dose it say Nissan on the bottle or dose it says Infiniti he said Nissan lol and he continued on and said it's still not the same so I asked him if it was gl4 m/t tranny oil and he had no clue on what I meant by gl4 and he quickly transferred my call to the service counter.I hung the phone up because I didn't have time.
Now when I first called Nissan up they told me I had to contact infinti and get the oil from them because they didn't carry it fir the g35.I told him ok well do y'all sell m/t oil for the 350z and he said yea it's $11.I told him ok I'll call you back.
From what I know sence I'm new to the Nissan/Infiniti world is that the 350z has the same tranny as the g35.right?
Are these people crazy or dose the g35 and the 350z use two different oils?

Infiniti is Nissan, but in retrospect I can't imagine why it'd be different, those parts guys have to make money somehow, I know a few guys in the parts department and I hear some funny wonder stories.
It is exactly the same stuff.
Manual Transmission Fluid (MTF)
Nissan HQ Multi 75W-85
P/N 999MP-MTF00P
I changed my MT fluid a few months ago. Best stuff you can use in our tranny IMO.
Stuff is usually cheaper at the Nissan vs the Infiniti dealer. If you give them a VIN they can always look up exactly what you need. No problem.

Here's what it says where I bought mine from for cheap...mynismo.
NISSAN Manual Transmission Fluid (MTF). NISSAN HQ Multi 75W-85. Use where NISSAN 75W-85 MTF is required in NISSAN, INFINITI, and other make vehicles. Check your vehicle's operator's manual for manufacturer's service recommendations.

It's the same stuff but I would probably use BG Synco-Shift II and add a tube of LS II additive. I've had good success with this fluid even in track cars. It is lighter than GL-4 so cold weather shifting is improved.
How noisy is your transmission? Does it grind going into 3rd or 5th yet?

^^^ How long have you been running this combo in a G35 6MT? Our trannys are very picky. I've done tons of research into this and the safest bet for the G35 6MT tranny seems to be sticking with OEM.

As far as grinding it's not really noticeable but 3rd gear has a Lil grind to it if you really pay attntion to it other than that I don't hear in other grinding and another thing is it's a Lil hard to put in 2nd gear it's just not as smooth as I would of thought it should be to say it's an Infiniti.
Shifting in the 6MT's are notorious for not being smooth as butter. Actually, not very smooth at all. It's a beautiful thing when you actually get through several gears real smooth right at that perfect RMP.
It's just how it is on these cars. If you get that clunk sound when shifting it's your rear diff bushings, not your clutch.

Probably 6 or 7 years with this fluid. Since it is lighter you may notice they are a little noisier. Probably have seen a hundred or so services without issue. The main problem with the transmissions being noisy is the engineering and as far as the grinding it's usually how the driver drives the car.
I don't know... the 6MT was released in 2003. So you took a relatively newly produced, rather expensive car, and quickly replaced it's MTF with one that is made specifically for front wheel drive vehicles and added a limited slip additive which has no place in our transmission gearbox??? My gawd man! You have some bawls!!!
And 100 or so services without issue? On this same car? I guess the MTF is being changed every 3 weeks when the typical service interval is maybe 30k miles?
I don't know... I sure would be wary of this advice for a typical owner. Glad it works for you!

Actually I'm not a owner....anymore. I've been a Infiniti tech since 91, I'm an Infiniti master tech, an ASE master tech, I've been the Infiniti tech of the year for North America(twice), I sit on the Committee that writes/proves/develops ASE test questions, I've done some product feedback reporting for Nissan engineering, worked with some of the engineers from Japan. I'm sure I can find some of the pics with me and some of the Japanese engineers from one of the awards ceremonies I've been to.
I also have my own shop that track preps G35 coupes, a few Porsches, and a few Corvettes that road race at VIR. We also build a bunch of street cars and drag cars as well but mostly domestic stuff.
And the first G35 6 speed cars were produced from 8/02 making those cars 8+ years old. So using the fluid for around 6 or 7 years should fit the timeline.
I looked at the label on Syncro Shift II and it doesn't say it was developed for front wheel drive vehicles. And with the additive....in addition to being and anti-slip diff agent it also fortifies and stabilizes the fluid. Like I said I've had good luck with this combination for 6-7 years....but what do I know
