Which Matters More - Mileage Or Years... LONG...
...when it comes to exterior and interior appearance?
There's a thread that asks how our Gs have held up so i posted some pics of mine. My car looks amazing for a nearly 7 year old G, I've been told and I agree.
The I tell people I only have 33K and they say 'oh, that's why'..
I think WTF? I bet I have more hours at slower speed (based on where I've lived since I owned the car) than they have at higher speed on the slab.
EXAMPLE:
I go out for an all day cruise on the Island and will be gone 8-10 hours but will only cover only 160 miles or so due to where we are and the speed limits etc.
The same 10 hours on the expressway would be 700 miles.
A high mileage car properly cared for and garage kept should look better than a low mile car kept outside in extreme conditions, yes or no?
What do you think?
Here are pics of my car. It was garage kept for 2 years but moved to the elements when I bought my first, second, and then third motorcycle.. It's been out in the pacific northwest winters for four-five years now.
My 05 is like new...

No matter the miles, she's been washed, clayed, and polished/sealed/waxed religiously at least once a month since I bought her. I think that means more than miles.

Looks very nice! Definitely the upkeep and care matters the most. Next I would say environment: ash, door dings, acid rain, snow/salt, etc. also play a huge part. Along with that being garage kept or not. But at least a good amount of that can be negated by consistent washing, proper washing techniques, claying, and a good wax or sealant.
The car was born and raised in Texas for two summers (hell on cars) and then moved to the pacific northwest (winters are even worse on cars).
Imagine your car driving in rain 8 months out of the year.
Yet my car looks like it does.
That's why I argue that it doesn't matter how many miles you have on your car - it matters how you treat it in between..
Yes, you're gonna get dings and nicks and all the crap that goes with driving a car.
If you drive your car 5000 miles between details or 500 miles between details - THAT's what makes te difference IMO.

And yes, I have three layers of floormats in my car. Factory, all weather, and then waterproof floormat.
:-)
Carpet in my car is showroom after basically five winters in Seattle.

Bob, this is the first time I can remember agreeing with you 100% on anything, but this time you're right across the board. Care and cover mean more than miles or months, although miles do come into play somewhat on hood dings. Oh, darn, maybe it's only 95%.
I do agree with just about everything you've said. I think miles can play a big role on how the exterior looks regardless of how you maintain it, though. I've only had my car since March but I've already put about 12,000 miles on it and I can definitely tell the exterior has more rock chips, 1 or 2 door dings, etc. I plan on detailing it soon the see if I can get a lot of the scuffs out. I think a new paint job is in order sometime in the next couple years
Does everybody have to take off their shoes before they get in the car?

Definitely shows how proper care can keep a car looking new. I have been neglecting my G since I got my 240Z and it shows.

These cars are notorious for hood dings, with characterizations of "soft paint". I'm about to shell out $355 to get my hood fixed, with only 7500mi on the car. Had a couple of dings, but last week a bolt came out of nowhere, bounced off the hood lip and hit the windshield. Touch up looks terrible, so off to the body shop.
I don't think I've ever gotten a door ding while I was moving.

That's one way of looking at it. Another is that door dings have more to do with length of time in an exposed spot than with the number of spots parked in.
