I would absolutely **** a brick if a shop messed up one of my wheels beyond repair, I'm in the same boat as you on the discontinued issue. And like Blain said, why would you go back to that shop for anything other than to collect your $$ for the rim repair??
Matt, the only shitty thing about this is.... any rim 18" and over. If it isnt done by a specialty shop, they are protected. Fine print is a bitch, but merchant did the same thing to my 18X10 konigs. My rim was too wide for them to work on and in fine print it states they take no liability. So the manager is being pretty cool about it and i would just see if they will pay for you to take it to a repair shop, its cheaper for them that way.

They only owe you the rim they messed up. If you saw them man-handling the wheels or placing it wrong you should have stepped up. If you weren't watching, then you trust people too much with a discontinued wheel. It's hard to believe anything is not repairable. It can be fixed, it might just cost more than the wheel is worth - since it's not your dime, I'd have it done.
I've been turned down by a lot of tire shops. Not only because of stretch, but I also give every new shop "the talking to", explaining that they need to be confident and not just, "Yeah, I think we can do it." And that they will pay for it if they even nick the titanium finish.
