Why do our cars sound like that?

I'm sure you all know the sweet sound our car makes, weather its revving it, starting it up, or just driving.

If you hear a G roll by without looking, your gonna know its a G, my question is what makes them sound like that? is it the exhaust?

You know what- this is a good question seriously. I am no motor head, but I don't think it is just the exhaust. If you change the exhaust, that signature quality is still there.

It has to be the engine

Of course it's the engine, but it goes a little deeper than that. It's all about the valve configuration and the heads. I can tell a Vette start up a block away just like our VQ motors by the sound they make when starting. You can change the exhaust different ways but it's still going to sound like a VQ motor!

There's also a certain amount of intake roar that gets amplified by a Z-tube. The lack of a real airbox has something to do with it I'm sure.

ok i can seem to figure this out and i want to know if anyone else is having this problem, has anyone heard some sort of clicking from the trunk? i have an 04 coupe and i hear some weird clicking (more like tapping) noise from my trunk. if anyone has a fix, or has a similar problem please let me know! thanks!

(it might be the trunk lining but im not sure)

I had this issues before, it was that hooker that i kidnaped. have you tried checking your trunk for those? or maybe someone is hiding back there?
