Why do our cars sound like that?
The VQ sounds nothing like the W204. The only thing the engines have in common are a faint 6cyl style of sound. the VQ is much more higher pitched and naturally raspy.
The difference between rasp in aftermarket exhausts is the piping diameter and amount of resonators used. Rasp is turbulence in the exhaust flow. Resonators mask the sound.
And the boxer engine sounds like a broken 911 because it has un-equal length headers, as it is a flat 4. Throw in equal length headers and it sounds like any other 4 banger. Because of the head set up and firing order, it does hold on to a little bit of boxer sound.

Whoa whoa blue dream whats with the douchness? Woke up on the wrong side of the couch today or what? Just having some fun with you, don't take it the wrong way but you've gotta admit your statement was a little off.
But let me restate myself because I think I worded myself wrong. I'm not saying all V6 sound like VQ coupes, 350zs, and fx35. Now that's the truth, good comeback. These 3 cars sound similar and distinct because of the rear section of the exhaust. They all have that warble.
Now take off that rear section and put a straight pipe. It's gonna sound the same as most V6s out there. Even someone in page 1 posted the C300 Benz that sounds so much like our Gs. Even my sedan which has the coupe mid pipe sounds like that. Except louder of course =].
What I'm trying to say is all engines, depending on the # of cyls will sound like the other car next to u if it's got the same # of cyls. V8s sound alike, V6s sound alike, 4s sound alike, well except for subies because their sound is very different compared to a Honda or Evo. And Im talking about the WOT raw engine sound. Or that sound when you hear a car pass by and u know EXACTLY the # of cylinder it has. Not the little differences like the VQ warble or like VTEC or something. You probably thought I was talking about the specifics.
Take off the coupe, 350z, fx35 rear section and it's gonna sound similar to any other V6 out there. It's not gonna have that warble. Go find a random V6 3.5 and put the 350 exhaust piping on. I'll bet u it's gonna sound like a VQ. Now go take a VQ and the random V6 u found, straight pipe or even better no exhaust, put them next to each other, run at similar RPMs, and they are gonna sound the same.
It all comes down to the exhaust piping for the sound. Without the piping I doubt u can hear the difference between V6s.
I don't have to type this much but hey veterans day so what ever!!!

lawls no worries brother. Damn internet makes it hard to convey emotions like humor, sarcasm, etc. If I'm bashing on you though you'll probably know it.
Not that I like to but sometimes with some of the n00bs here.................

Damn, that Scooby sound like straight ****!
lol that benz sounds nothing like a g. nice try tho. imo its mostly the exhaust setup. and the unique sound goes away with most aftermarket exhausts and pretty much sounds like every other car with an aftermarket exhaust. like someone posted earlier the other nissans with the vq engine sound nothing like the g even the g sedan. but as they start putting bits and pieces from an oem g coupe exhaust they get more and more of the sound. theres a clip on youtube where a guy with an altima coupe somehow put a g exhaust on his car and it sounded almost like a g coupe. trying to find it

I posted on a Subaru forum when I switched from Legacy GTs to a G37. One guy said "Now you have to put up with an exhaust that sounds like baby farts". I said, "It only sounds like that if you're behind it. Oh. Right."

idk i just felt like quoting u xD
VQ stock sound one of a kind
Hahah that's hilarious!! WRXs sound like cars with a big exhaust leak. The ones that have CAIs sound like a turbocharged diesel engine. But I really like how subies sound because it sounds so distinct. At WOT they sound awesome really nice. I
was contemplating on a WRX, Legacy GT, or G35 when I was looking for a car. I finally went with a G35 because it's RWD. As much as I love the WRX and Legacy the AWD felt too safe and calm. I felt more unrestricted in a G. And there's so many parts for them. But faack that AWD kept me back hahah
But heres a symphony of VQs
