Does it take more gas to start the car than to idle for a few mins?

Yep, pure myth, I've heard the same old saw about turning on a light bulb.

man i was wondering this same thing the other day! Im glad the question was answered. I kinda figured that since some new cars have the stop/start technology that idling wasnt as efficient.

Cars that have built in stop/start probably have an enhanced starter motor.

I tend to leave the car running unless I'm waiting in line for food. But some of that is history from years ago when I had some unreliable cars.

I let mine idle alot during the winter time but mileage really doesn't decrease. I guess it's because in the summer I push the car a bit but in the winter, I won't push the car driving on snow/ice but I let it idle.

I would rather idle it than start it again but that's just me. The new M3 has auto start/stop technology but I don't think I would like that.

My Aunt's Honda Accord Hybrid is like this. When you stop the engine turns off.. then release the brake it powers on again..

Our Family's Lexus SUV Hybrid is also like this..
