Weird dipstick reading

As I was checking my dipstick, (30 min downtime after shut down) I noticed that the stick itself was only half covered in oil. For example, when looking at the "L----------H" meter, only the bottom half had oil on it visibly, but the oil reached the high mark. Is this normal for our cars or should I worry?

I also started noticing that if I break hard, my oil light turns on for a slight second then goes away until I break hard again. Are these things related at all and how so?

I will be taking my car in tomorrow for an oil change as its close to it's regular interval and I hope that oil light will never come on again as ive heard that light means very bad things when its on.

Any pertinent info you guys can provide will be very helpful and thx a lot in advance!

Maybe you're out of oil, and that oil you see on the top mark is just from it catching oil somewhere down the pipe.

This is what I'm getting from what you said.

kind of what he said....When I check my oil I always bang the "L" end on the way out so sometimes the oil isn't that part. Above it, however, there is oil up to the "H".

Yea, the strip of oul covers all the way to the top, yet oil does not cover The entire L-H part of the dipstick. I'll examine how it looks like when I get my oil change tomorrow. Thx for the opinions so far though guys

The dip stick is awful however, Nissan engines burn a little oil so you are probably low. I would check it right after you get the oil changed just to make sure they filled it to the correct point and then keep checking it about every 1k miles. If it's down a little, add a tiny bit of oil. The the low mark on the dipstick is only like 1/4 quart different than the high mark (if that makes any sense). For example, if you're on the low mark and then you add approx. 1/4 quart you should be at the full mark.

Our first gen oil dip sticks are a major PIA especially with aftermarket intakes. I need two hands and a flashlight to hit the hole....just like at home.

K just got my oil changed. My dipstick was rediculously low before in comparison to now. Of all the non-rev ups that DON'T burn oil, mine just has too. lol. My oil cycle barely lasted 3k miles. I've determined that the streak of oil reaching the high mark was probably just oil scraping up the pipe as I take the dipstick out.

I'll be checking my oil religiously now as per your guys' advice. This is gay! (T.T)
