Anti Chrome Methods
Ok Ladies and Gents........
This is the thread where we discuss the various methods of covering your ugly (****ing Ghay) chrome trim pieces. Lets be honest unless your riding OB with Chrome rims most of those pies look better Black, Flat, or Body colored.
Now no matter what your solution I have decided my DG hates Chrome
So I am going for the flat black look on all shiny shizzzz
This leads to a hug uproar about Plastidip as upposed to the old fashion paint and multiple other methods
I decided to guenie pig my G in the name of the club (and boredom) and test this out
So we are doing the rear emblem, Door handles, Grill, Grill emblem, and side trim, in phases...........
I am down to see before after and way after (ie how well this held up after) pics from everyone.....
Here is the first thing I did which would be the grill
Now here is the before

and then back of the Grill in Flat Black Paint

Now for the test
PlastiDip Fugi VS Flat Black Grill

Ok so i plastidiped the door handles because I have seen "the Screen Savers" and his are vinyl they look great but you get a slight peel from them. Sadly I get the same thing from the Dip. So I am going to try to completely remove the handles this week and see how they come out after because I life the fact that the rubbery flat look like an oem option. So far Dip to paint I am feeling the dip because it is more chip resistant and shows dirt less.
Having perused the forums enough I feel like I am making my G into a hoopty but honestly the Dip looks better than the flat paint.
Anyway this afternoon I went to those damn side trim pieces (I have hated them since the day before I bought my Car)
Here is what came out of that
tape and paper are your friends

Make sure you roll the tape and cover all your rubber pieces.
Yes its a Pain in the *** but it is necessary to make your ride not look rice

Also when you pull the tape it helps to cut the edge so you don't peel the dip off needed areas.

Before

And slight after (have a few touch ups to do)

Also if you look at the sixth pic of my last post you can see where my hand hit the mirror and left an nasty bulge. I had to make several evening coats and it still isn't perfect but I have more touch ups to do and was going to get in trouble with the Misses if I didn't finish quickly

So anyway feel free to give me feedback or options. I'll accept the flames that are going to come with the fact that I sub-come to the Dip-Side. In honesty though I don't care whats on my car if it's functional and looks good I am happy.
I went with Shadow Chrome on parts of my headlights, and a light coat of nightshades on the grille.

I think the matte black makes your car look 5 years older.
Not a good thing. Doesn't look horrid. But the black around the windows makes it look dated.

I feel like the pointless chrome makes it look cheap it's on every car out there these days. Also reminds me of the ghetto cars where all the trim is that tacky chrome. I've seen the black on black Gs and the chrome looks nice on them but don't like it on mine.

Yeah there some spots where I'm going to have to go back but I was being nagged by the gf so I just gave in between her and the wind. I'll fix it tomorrow. Drives me nuts I'm a perfectionist though.
