Excessive road noise?

Are g35's really noisy while driving? Almost everyone that has been in my car has complained about how loud and noticable the outside noise is. Its not the sound of the car. Just road and wind noise. If im on the highway, i have to turn my radio up to at least 25 just to slightly mask the sound. My drivers side weather stripping is leaking a tiny bit as it drips inside when i wash my car. Could that be it? It sounds like most of the noise is coming from the rear.

Depends what you mean by excessive... The coupe is generally louder than the sedan when it comes to road noise. The crack in your stripping shouldn't attribute to that much road noise. Also, make sure your windows close all the way tight into the stripping. Same with your moonroof (assuming you have one). Other than that, I think the coupes are a little noisier compared to other cars.

My coupe definitely has road noise too. Sounds like I'm driving on snow tires even though it's summer tires.

Yeah, I hear a lot of road noise too. Lower profile tires don't help either.

My 19" Nitto INVO's are super quiet, compared to the OEM 17" Firehawks its a night and day difference. I hardly get any road noise, the only thing I hear is the wind currents as my slick G slices through wind with its low .27g of drag.

Could be your tires. I had worn out Avon Techs and the noise was bad (but not horrible). I didn't realize this until I just recently switched out to the Continental DWS and it made a tremendous difference. When the windows are closed while on the freeway, I set my radio to no higher than 15 because then the music is too loud lol.

I would say that the tires are a big part of the road noise you are hearing. With a good set of quiet tires you will notice a big difference in cabin noise.

I had bad wind noise from passenger side and it started leaking eventually. Replacing weather stripping fixed the wind noise. I'm amazed it took me 2 years to finally fix it.

Anyway it's not exactly whisper quiet at the best of times- but fixing it made a huge difference. You may need to replace both. Mine was very clearly the passenger side but it didn't actually leak until a couple days before I changed it even though the noise had been an issue since I bought the car.

Michelins are great at reducing road noise, I have the michelin primacy and the road noise and comfortable drive is very noticeable.

My sedan is fairly quiet. Minus the exhaust lol.

Tires make a huge, huge difference in what you hear. A loud tire sucks.

Yes, I noticed the road noise right off when I got mine back in 2005. I attributed it to the harder bushings in the "sport" package. Now that I have all poly bushings, I think I was right, it's just a bit louder still.

This may sound stupid, but make sure your rear seats are completely closed against the trunk. Popping the rear seats down (or not having them completely closed back to seal off the trunk) makes a pretty sizable difference in interior noise. If you look back towards the rear deck and see a little red button sticking up your seats aren't fully closed.

I recently bought a 2005 G35 Coupe, and also notice a fair bit of road noise. I think it's normal, but when I replace the stereo, I'll consider some dynamat in key locations, perhaps it will help out.
