Has anyone had a Gauge Cluster replaced to fix Gas Gauge issues?
Wasn't sure where to post this.
I've had pretty much ever common G problem there is to have, and every gas tank related one, which never seems to go away.
When I first go the car, I was at the dealership 10 times in the first year to try to fix my gauge, they replaced just about everything one by one but it didn't fix it. Eventually they replaced the gauge cluster and it happened to work for the most part for about 2 years.
Brought it back to the dealership to have the shutter valve fixed (for the 2nd time mind you) and that seemed to have broken the gas gauge once again.
My waranty is up, and I've been driving with it broken for the last year, my shop cleaned the floaters and it worked for 1 day, then broke again.
When I fill the car up, when its full, it'll read as half full. They're telling me they tested the floaters and it read correct 100% to the machine, so it must be the gauge cluster.
A new cluster is 700 dollars, for a fix that may or may not actually solve my problem.
Has anyone had to replace their cluster to fix this issue? It seems really suspicious that I would have to replace my gauge cluster TWICE in 2 years to try to solve this issue. I wouldn't think that they break often.
Any help would be appreciated, I've had this problem for almost 4 years, seems to never go away, the car has ran out of gas on me while I was driving, and left me coasting at 60 with no power steering or power brakes before, it was a pretty scary moment and I would like to avoid repeating it.

i had the same problem with my 03 max replaced the cluster never had the problem again. in my 05 sedan bought in july and have gas gauge issue. haven cleaned the floater to see if it works but id imagine it a problem with the cluster or the gas gauge motor.

Well, took my 06' into the dealer this morning and they replaced the cluster (they promised to fix it when I bought the car = $950 that I didnt have to spend). Gas gauge fixed and everything seems to be functioning normally.
The AIR BAG light was flashing when I picked it up, so I was going to take it back up there tomorrow morning, but searched the forums and followed the reset process and VILOA'....fixed!!
