Some older muscle car owners are jealous that our V6's put out more power.

^^ That ***** funny, you are joking right? You know they used to under rate horsepower numbers? No doubt our G's are better cars to drive but with modern tires a late 60's early 70's or any one of modern muscle car will dust one of these things.

Facts about what? Horsepower ratings, it a commonly known fact the Detroit under rated HP numbers until 1972 on most if not all big block & pony cars, that's why the SAE standard was created look it up. I'm sure you remember the G's horsepower rating went up significantly when the SAE standard changed yet again in 2005 or 2006, 265 suddenly became 282 for autos, what did Nissan change, nada! Chasis dyno's have shown there's almost no difference. No doubt if you pull up next to some poor sap with an all original 283 auto Mustang you'll give him a good race but that's not a muscle car. I've built and dyno'd enough american V8's to know 1 Horsepower per cubic inch is a cakewalk which gives even a lowly 350 Camaro a ratio of close to 230 horsepower per ton compared to the G's 160. Even if you use the advertised hp of 295 it's 193 hp per ton. You may have forgotten that with the addition of air bags, navigation, eight speaker audion systems and all the other conviences modern cars have gotten heavy. My 04 weighs in at over 3300 pounds and even though a 1st gen Camaro is a little bigger it was close to 300lbs lighter. And for what it's worth I grew up during the muscle car era, we owned two Roadrunners a 383 & a 440, a 390 Fairlane, I personally owned a big block Chevelle & a small block Vette (turd until it got a roller cammed 350), plus I spent close to 10 years working in the performance aftermarket (Supershops & Loper's) which at that time included close to no imports. I'm pretty sure I know what I'm talking about. I'm not knocking G's, they are great cars, I love mine but they are a far cry from the GTO's, 442's, Hemi Cuda's, side oiler Fords, big block Chevelles of the late 60's and early 70's.

You did read my post right, modern tires. 0-60 times dot com, uses numbers from old magazine tests for most if not always for older cars, bias ply tires? Thing probably killed a set in one 1/4 mile pass, go race a 70 six pack challenger and get back to me, I already know how that's gonna work out for ya. 390 hp @ 4700rpm and 490 ftlbs of torque at 3200 rpm in a 3600 lb car, I've driven them, it's crazy how much power they have. That motor makes more power than a VQ before it get to 2500 rpm

don't disagree, just by the quarter mile times vs the trap speed, you can see they had a hard time hooking up.

How old was the guy in the Camaro, 11? I had a rental V-6 Camaro last time I was in Boston on travel and it was nothing to write home about. It was a fine car, but I wouldn't trade for my 1st gen sedan - and I grew up building early 70s muscle cars in the 80s.

The poor visibility in those cars is close to being dangerous. The car also felt very heavy compared to ours and the V-6 was coarse.

Besides, who buys a Camaro with a V-6 anyway :-)

The new Camaro and Challenger weigh very close to 4,000 pounds! I had a V-6 Challenger for a rental once and it had crappy visibility as well.

I was disappointed in the new Charger I rented as well. The numbers look ok, but the chassis balance and delivery is severely lacking, and the the MPG is terrible to boot.

I grew up on Blown Dusters/Fairlanes and Big Block Chevelles and often find myself reminiscing and wanting to own one again. However, reality quickly sets in and I suddenly once again appreciate just how far automobiles have come in 40 years.

Cars like the new A7 are a work of art and ones like the WRX STI stick to the pavement like the two were drawn together by huge magnets on a slot car track. Also, a new 328i that can carry 5 adults in reasonable comfort, excellent safety test results, hit 60mph in 5.5 secs with a 4 Cyl, while still pulling down 30mpg...what will this generation do for an encore?

Personally, I thing we are in a golden age of automobiles now and soon will be reminiscing about the days when everyone pumped petro into their tank instead of electrons.

You need to test drive the SRT-8. Both the Challenger and the Charger SRT-8's have been redesigned. The suspension and power delivery on them is so much improved over the last-gens.

Anyway back to @ss hats of America. Before I owned my G I had a Sentra SER. I had modified it because that's what we do. It had a Nismo Exhaust, Nismo Gram Light Wheels, and Tein Springs. It was an ok car but nothing special. I had someone in a Rousch Mustang revving at me and drifted a corner in traffic. Lost the car and spun into the other lane. I agree it's not the cars it's the stupid people that flock toward them. I also had someone make fun of my car for having the JDM Skyline badges saying "wine taste on a beer budget" since he didn't know about the car and didn't know about the car. Ignorance just make you sound stupid without facts.

Wine taste on a beer budget? Sounds like the dude has his facts backwards. Pretty sure a real, base model V35 Skyline would've cost considerably less than the price tags that our G35's carried...

Totally agree, however if his Neon was the SRT4, it WILL blow the G35 in a drag race.
