As for advice mine was pretty clear in my first post. Instead of looking at minor details such as headlights and whatnot, when buying an 05+ MT check for oil consumption.

If OP is considering automatic then don't worry about oil consumption.

06+ is the better car overall, as long as the OC issue is dealt with or get an auto.
So I should be worried about OC if its manual? I'm only looking at AT's anyway so I won't have to worry about oil consumption, right?

But does G35 coupes burn more gas in general?

G35
Correct. Only manual 2005+ G35 came with the rev up engine which many people had the OC issues. Many were replaced under warranty but quite a bit weren't touched. But this all shouldn't matter if you're buying an auto.

G35 aren't the best cars on gas, but it never bothered me. Honestly I'm happy paying another 100 bucks a month and enjoy my car. Same as every other car, each is known for its problem. G35 are know for bad window motors, bad CD players. But the same goes with acura or any other car, I'm sure they have a flaw.

Over all I love my G coupe. It's RWD, damn sexy for a 10 year old platform, luxurious, sporty, fits 4 people, sexiest exhaust sound ever, turn heads and many aftermarket parts including parts from 350z

Would I buy a G again? Hell yes.

Good luck with your decision.

It really depends on your priority.

Infiniti are general reliable but it can be more expensive to own (cost of ownership like maintenance, insurance, gas, etc) than non-luxury brand vehicle.

For $12k, Honda Accord is not a bad choice. They are reliable, good on gas (4 cyl), relatively cheap to maintain, should be cheaper to insure. You can still get full leather interior and navi with the Accord.

Its nothing wrong with waiting until you graduation, save up the money, then get the nicer car that you deserve.

I will give you an unbiased opinion as i do not hate nor love my G35.

Pros:
- reliable, man i have not had one problem and i drive WOT all the time.
- It has a timeless design and this is not opinion, it looks like a new car, most people cant tell it its 10 years ld
- drives well, has enough power and is not a boat, still fit 4 people.
- good looking interior

Cons:
-NOT as fast as ou want it to be, dont buy this car if you are trying to go fast
-CREAKY interior, hear the plastic rubbing, while interior looks nice! i dont think it is put together well.
-HORRIBLE gas mileage for a v6, it is god awful and to sacrifice that mileage for not even 300whp, not worth it.
-transmission is meh, takes a good second or two to shift gears, mine is obviously auto, the trip is even worse
-six speeds are more expensive then autos but a couple grand.

overall solid car, reliability right now is honestly all i care about and it does its job. BUT i wanted speed and it dosent have it, dont MOD this car, honestly a waste of money for the results, and from what i hear on here about FI our car they are either unreliable or make less then 400 whp which to me no point. having said that i would have still bought my g35 knowing this. It is SOLID and if i had one word to describe it that would be it SOLID.

but times are ending now and about to be out of school

BRB 2005 e55 AMG, 450 hp and 500 TQ S/C 5.5 liter.

yes reliability will suffer, but the smile on m face when i punch it on the freeway will make up for it!

g35 is prob the best bang for your buck overall rounded car. better looks at faster then a civic, but cheaper and way more reliable then a bmw or mercedes.

YES GET ONE!

Only bad thing about it is the gas mileage you get from it.

Best advice yet.

Graduating college with little debt is very important these days.

I persoanlly wouldn't drop $15k on a nearly 10-year old car...but that's just me.

eh,

i have an 06 6MT.. Oil consumption was a problem, but luckily I got it fixed before the warranty was over.. They ended up replacing my short block, problem solved. There's a few little things that **** me off about the car, but overall I love it. If you're worried about gas, then don't buy a car with a big engine :/

I had bad experiences myself with my 04 g35 6mt coupe.

Oil consumption 1qt every 800–1000 miles
Cd changer skips/stops playing
Windows don't roll up at times
Valve cover gaskets leaked
Glove box leather peeling off
Raddles in the rear suspension
Leaky trunk
Can't fill gas tank to full. Only takes in 3/4 tank at a time

Performance wise is not that great nor is it luxurious.
Pretty slow for a 3.5L and handles like a pig.

Only thing I liked about it is looks and sounds nice the exhaust note.

15k is going to be eaten up pretty fast with the G. There are some things undone with the car that just amazes me... Go read the "what do you hate about your G35" thread and see what those things are.

I recommend spending your 10k on a different car and use the other 5 on getting things in order and making it your own- or just calling it a JIC fund.

It is simply NOT worth going broke over this car. In a lot of cases they aren't even that nice without modification.

Think bout resale whether its a month from now or 10 years. 03's are losing value like crazy. I'd shoot to spend around 14, you should be able to get an 06 with around 80k-ish
