05, no longer under Nissan warranty. I purchased this car because of the warranty that came with it!

Update: Warranty company replaced the transmission with a used one. This trannsmission has a 6 mo warranty, and after that my extended warranty kicks back in. As for the driveshaft it's supposed to be in tomorrow, and even though it's not covered under warranty, the shop has been awesome and is going to swap it in for free. They already swapped the new tranny in and put the bad driveshaft in temporarily to test the tranny / gears, etc, and said it shifts great.

I'll hopefully have the car back tomorrow, can't wait!

Got the car back. Drives beautifully. Unfortunately the new drive shaft I purchased from someone on here turned out to be even worse, so I'm sticking to the old one for now. Total cost: ~1450.00 I paid: $108.00. Definitely not complaining in the end. Just took a kick in the *** to get the warranty company to do anything useful lol.

So, was a new transmission actually necessary? Hard shifting when cold sounds more like it's time to replace the tranny fluid, and not something actually wrong with the trans itself.

Dime sized hole in the transmission on some internal part, so in short, yes it was necessary.

I am glad it all worked out for you!

I don't know why people bash on 3rd party extended warranties....

I have one for my car and it has paid for itself numerous times over. However, my car seems to be haunted, as I have had to have multiple alternators (5) put in my car in just over 3 years of ownership. I have a $100 deductible and almost every time it goes in to the shop, that is what i pay. Also, when the car has died on the highway, in the middle of nowhere, i get $100 worth of towing FREE (even if i don't have work done).

The only issue i have had with them is they do not warranty the new part in put in the car. For example my alternator went out just outside of St. Louis, I took it to Plaza infiniti. 6 months later, it died on me again in Columbia, I took it to Machen's Nissan. I had to pay the $100 again, only because it went to a different dealership.

Basically, what i am getting at is that it depends on the kind of extended warranty that was purchased with the car and how the car ages. It will also depend on the shop that you take it to.

tldr: All extended warranties are not bad.
