G35 Coupe rear subframe oil leak: 2000+ to repair.....

Okay, I was first told it was $1200 to replace the rear subframe, now I'm told it's $2200.....

It doesn't matter, since I bought extended warranty. But wow Infiniti is cracking down. They are now demanding pictures of the parts in question and a picture of the odometer.

Unlike before where I can just drop of my car and grab a loaner. I had to wait 2 hours for Infinti to finally approve and then I was off.

But what is up with this car and all the damn leaks and cracks? Oil on the plugs, cracked compression rod bushings, rear subframe bushing leaking oil, man what is next? Sun roof flying off?

Looks like this is another common issue. Better take a look at yours before your warranty is over!

The rear subframe bushing is common. I'm willing to bet there a many G's out there that have a leaking differantial bushing and not know it.

The bushing is an "easy" fix. Replace it with SPL solid differential bushings and never have to worry about leaks again. Other than having to bang out the old OEM bushing, the install is relatively easy. There are many threads about it on here and my350z about the sold diff bushings.

My 06 G35 6 speed sedan was beginning to leak at 171000 miles.Dealer told me the seal was cheap but 4 to 5 hours labor @ $135/hour
It also needed brakes since the OEM pads were replaced at 85k miles.
It also had an intermittent drivers side ballast that needed replacement

It was an easy decision

I traded it in for my 2012 G37S at 171796 miles last August 31

Sometimes it is just easier and makes financial sense to just let go

In between $2-3K is normal. If they choose not to cover it under warranty than just find a shop that will press an aftermarket one in.

But the G37 also has this issue!

Anywho, the warranty was approved. Maybe I should buy the new dry bushing and let them install it before they stick the new fluid filled one back in. Don't want this to happen again and again.

BMW is pretty strict about parts as well. Around here you need to physically bring in the broken part in question before they will sell you a new one in most cases.

Chances are the dealership will not install the new bushing, all they do is swap out subframes.

Yep, for warranty work, they have to go by the book. No aftermaket parts.

Assuming nothing is seized, it's probably just as quick to drop the entire subframe vs trying to pull the bushing out, especially with the spare tire hump being in the way. I don't think the OEM bushing is even available as a separate part.

^Although its not entirely difficult to drop the rear subframe, it is time consuming and somewhat of a PITA to do so by yourself.

True, if the OP has access to those it would definitely help. I did it with the car on jack stands and it wasn't fun.

^I wish ours were that small. I agree with what your saying if someone has the proper space and tools. I have to pick up one of those jacks though, that would have made a tremendous difference .

It's all fixed. My cost. $50 deductible lol

The extended warranty I purchased has more than paid for itself. 3x over. Probably more when I tell them to check my plugs. I bet money it's filled with oil.

What is this part?

Is it the two "hockey pucks" that bolt the differential to the subframe?

EDIT: Nevermind, found this thread.
