Hi everyone, had a quick question I have an 06 g35 coupe and recently I moved to Texas from Cali with the car. Lately I've been noticing once in awhile like colder days especially when I start the car and start to move while turning the wheel I get this high pitch squealing sound and it last for like 2 seconds but it's embarrassing lol. Was wondering if anyone knew the problem or a fix for it?

 

Also no CEL on or anything...

 

Possibly a belt (or pulley actually) sticking? Also potentially power steering related but that's usually more of a whine than a squealing unless it's the pump.

I wouldn't think moving had much to do with it, but that's where I would start looking. Have someone else start the car for you and see if you can spot a pulley that isn't spinning immediately and also check the power steering fluid / look for leaks from the reservoir / pump / rack.

First guesses that come to mind anyway, still working on coffee so might be way off but all I got at the moment.

 

That's what I was thinking with the belts or something too

 

Replace the belts, when they're both dry/worn and cold they'll make all kinds of awful noises. Buy OE belts from Nissan, their belts have far better quality than after market.

So you think it's actually the belts then? Is there a way to check and see how bad they are? Like what to look for

 

Look for cracks since that usually indicates they are dried out.

I had this exact problem and it was tied to a loose belt after the break in period.

The squeal is belt slip.

The belt could have stretched and requires an adjustment, or the belt is worn out...or a combo of the two
