Exclamation Future Problems Ahead?

I joined this forum last July shortly after I purchased a 2004 G35 coupe in like new condition with 50,000 miles. The previous owner kept the car in great condition both cosmetically and mechanically. I did a little research on the brand, loved the style and power, wanted a MT and the car was in my price range. So what's the problem you ask, when I joined this forum I read dozens of posts trying to learn as much about the car from owners that I could. Through this forum i kept coming across posts by owners that have experienced
nightmares dealingt with excessive oil consumption problems and other complaints about owning this model. I rarely hear of any happy endings with owners having to spend boatloads of money to keep the car on the road. I can honestly say had I researched the car more throughly on this forum before my purchase I would never have bought this model car especially with the expensive repairs ahead.
I hope this is the right place to post this question so I ask can anyone or everyonehelp make me feel better about my purchase and comment and give me some positive feedback on their experience owning this model vehicle and why I shouldn't regret my decision to buy this make and model especially with the inevitable problems ahead. Thank you

Most of the oil consumption problems were/are with the 2005-2006 "Rev-Up" motors. Most likely you are fine. Just check the oil (yes I know a dip stick designed the dip stick) every fill up until you establish an oil use pattern.

Oil gets consumed in these cars... It happens. I had to add a quart to my 09 Audi A4 every 6kmiles as well... Cars burn oil here and there.

My previous 06 G35 6speed manual purchased brand new gave me 171796 miles when I traded it in for my present 2012 G37S

My 06 sometimes used a qt of oil per 1000 miles
Not a problem. 5w-30 Oil on sale at Pep Boys was cheap by the case.
Just check your oil
Not too difficult

Futere problems ahead

Thanks for your replies I probably wasnt as clear as I could have been but what I specifically was concerned about was the oil consumption and related problems that lead to premature engine failure that leads to expensive repairs and engine replacment those were my main concerns that I wanted addressed. I purchased a Datsun 280ZX in the 80's with low mileage and after a few thousand miles I had to replace the engine and that experience was not only expensive but time consuming and dont want to go through that again. thanks again

As long as he engine never gets below 1 quart low, you will have few problems. What most people don't understand is that when the oil is below showing AT ALL on the dip stick, you have less than 2 1/2 quarts left in the engine. When 2 quarts try to do the work of 5, it wears out too fast, over heats and can't protect the engine anymore. As long as the oil stays at 4 quarts or more, you are fine.

You have an 04, so this shouldn't be a problem. Easy way to see if you're burning excessive oil (all cars burn a little) is to look at your tail pipes. If they're black and sooty, you're burning excessive oil. If they're a light rust color you're good to go.

Best way to know if you're having concerns is to check your oil level frequently, use a quality synthetic and oil filters like WIX or K&N. Change oil every 3,500 miles. Our '04 coupes shouldn't have the same issues the '06 & '07 MTs had with poor quality Chinese oil rings...not sure about the Chinese part but most everything they make is trash!

You forgot to mention the 2005's as well.............Engine rebuilder noticed that one of the cylinders was oval and not round........he fixed it............car still sucks oil. Every 300 miles I check the oil, its down about a 1/4 from high to low.

This situation does not please me but I deal with it. I just ensure oil level is HIGH!

Cheers!
