2004 G35 For 16 year old?

Hey guys, I will be turning 16 and I am looking for a 2004 g35 with 70-100k for around 10k. I am looking for your thoughts on a g35 for a first car for a 16 year old. I have been driving for 2 years with a drivers permit and drove to and in 7 other states with over 300 hours of driving. Thanks!

they are not cheap to maintain, insure and keep up.
Got the funds and brain to support it, go for it. No, you'll end up in a ditch a week after you buy one.

Nothin like wrapping a 300hp 3500lb vehicle 'round a tree cuz you think you know what yer doing. Good luck, kid.

Best advice I can give you is: don't get this car. Go learn to drive in a 130hp vehicle with low cost maintenance and THEN go get a 300hp RWD vehicle that costs a ton of money to maintain.

I totally agree with the last two posts.. But if you drive like a mature young adult and can afford what the car throws at you than sure, get it. But in my opinion this is NOT a good first car for somone that is 16. At this age, this is when you make the dumbest decisions in your life..

Being 16, insurance will KILL you in this car. Sure you'll look good, but you'll also be flat broke every month. You want money to play with, not money going towards bills you could avoid.

Trust us, get something cheap, economical, and go have some fun. There are good looking cars out there that are cheap on insurance because other 16-21 year olds pass over them. Also whatever you do, avoid getting a coupe or 2 door. Talk with an insurance agent to help you narrow down the vehicle you want. Before you buy ANY vehicle, get an insurance estimate.

Nissan Sentra will be a good starter for you. You get to learn about Nissan motors and how they work and trouble shooting so when your ready to step up your game you can buy a g35. Too many young ones thing they can handle the power but end up flipping there car or light post. See a few threads on this in the beginning of my days on these forums

I would wait to get this as a first car, 300hp may not seem like a lot, trust me though, this car has more teenage accidents than any other car on the road. Get something with less hp. You won't hate it.

I'll go a different route.

If you are mature enough to handle the car, then go for it. When I was 16 I had a 300HP manual trans Mustang without ABS, traction control, VDC, etc. I survived fine and never had any close calls.

However, a 2004 G35 is a 12 year old car. These cars are not cheap to maintain and being up there in age is when you may have to start replacing items like bushings and control arms and such. Tires aren't cheap, if you get a model with Brembo's it's not cheap to do brakes. They maintain like the $40K cars they were when new. So unless you have the funds to keep up with the repairs, I'd find something else.

Plus, $10K seems kinda expensive for a 2004 G35 coupe.

2004 G35 For 16 year old?

Well not to seem like I know it all but I think I can relate to you better than anyone else here can, being if you check my threads, I asked the same question last fall and I am the same age as you.

1 - do you have a job? if so be prepared to lose a lot of spending money. A 12 year old luxury car may lose its value, but parts are still expensive as *****. so if you can comfortably pay for the car and put a decent amount away each month, that's a head start. All cars will need maintenance, and that's not cheap on a G, at all.

2 - have you checked what insurance will be like? I was quoted 3200 a year for full coverage

3 - it really also comes down to what kind of person you are, I know every one of us teens says we're more mature than the next guy, no matter what. When push comes to shove and you're with friends in the car, $hit happens.

4 - have you ever driven a fast car befire? the G may not be up to oar with modern muscle. but it isn't your average car. plus the rwd can be a recipe for disaster with a brand new driver.

EDIT - I just re read your post and realized that you are just getting your license. that being said I think you should stay away from the G, especially since you are new to driving alone, and I may sound like an old overly cautious person by saying this. But not one person who just got their license drives the same way they did when they had a permit, that goes for everyone LOL. so as much as I love the G, I think you should stay away for awhile until you're a more experienced driver. just my 2 cents

If you have to ask then you are not ready for it even if its a pinto. Getting a G35 or any vehicle for that matter at your age is a good experience with financial and personal responsibility. In the end you have to respect the car and the fact it can hurt/kill you or someone else, no different than a table saw in shop class. Don't get offended, I know people with decades of experience driving cars and should not be behind the wheel.

Faaget about it

Not a good choice for a 16 yr old first car.

Go buy the newest Honda Civic or Sentra 6 speed manual you can afford.
Learn to drive/shift first and after a few years when you are out of college with a decent job go look for a Infiniti.
You are not going to be able to afford an Infiniti at your age.
