Premium on premium gas
I've posted this before and again I'll leave it here from the FSM
Precautions for Fuel (Unleaded Premium Gasoline Required) NAS0005S
Use unleaded premium gasoline with an octane rating of at least 91 AKI (Anti-Knock Index) number (Research
octane number 96).
If unleaded premium gasoline is not available, unleaded regular gasoline with an octane rating of at least 87
AKI number (Research octane number 91) can be used, but only under the following precautions:
. have the fuel tank filled only partially with unleaded regular gasoline, and fill up with unleaded premium
gasoline as soon as possible.
.avoid full throttle driving and abrupt acceleration.
However, for maximum vehicle performance, the use of unleaded premium gasoline is recommended.
CAUTION:
Do not use leaded gasoline. Using leaded gasoline will damage the three way catalyst. Do not use E-85
fuel (85% fuel ethanol, 15% unleaded gasoline) unless the vehicle is specifically designed for E-85 fuel
(i.e. Flexible Fuel Vehicle - FFV models). Using a fuel other than that specified could adversely affect
the emission control devices and systems, and could also affect the warranty coverage validity.

The key word here is anti-kock index. Yes, the car has knock sensors. But if they fail, the engine will not correct the timing. It's clear that infiniti is pushing towards the 91+ octane, or they wouldn't tell you to only fill the tank partially with 87 until you can find 91. If you're willing to sacrifice performance, buy a prius.

For clarity, that's (the copy/paste above) only applicable for the VQ37 engine, not the VQ35. They are obviously tuned differently. The owner's manual, which 99.9% of owners might read, vs the FSM, says nothing about only partially filling with standard grade until you get get premium. Infiniti recommends premium and only says you "may" notice a performance change.
At the end of the day, let people put whatever they want in (definitely in the case of the VQ35) and live happy.

To my surprise, the owners manual actually had more information on the fuel than the FSM. I'm not hating on anyone using regular in their car, it's just not my way to save money. Not sure why these pics came out sideways
It's usually only a $3-10 difference at fill up near me. It used to only be $2 difference. The recent hike in premium fuel cost sucks. $0.50 more a gallon.
For me the gas mileage difference is worth it alone.
I get Terrible city mileage though.

Exactly! It costs like 5 bucks extra per tank, not a risk worth saving 5 dollars over, especially if you're like I am and enjoy driving the car like it was meant to be driven. Also yeah I get 13 mpg in the city 😂 but I can get 400 miles a tank on the freeway
I run premium in my F150, costs 10 to 12 more per tank but I get better throttle response. I tried a couple of tanks of regular and wasn't happy with the throttle lag.
Never tried regular in the G which is my "economy car" and never will.
.50 is about the average premium for premium here. I'd rather pay a little extra and enjoy driving it instead of saving a few bucks and risk problems.

$12 more per tank by me. Just took my first highway trip with the G and got 24.9 MPG which would be close to 500 miles on a tank. Car runs awesome!
