I think you mean "exhaust pop" which is silenced almost 100% by the stock exhaust.

Backfiring is spark igniting combustion chamber gasses before the intake valves fully close, the explosion shoots back up the intake tract and will destroy sensitive sensors on a fuel injected vehicle so it's definitely not something you want to TRY to do...

I caught the underhood insulation on fire on a 1975 Chevy Impala coupe I used to own decades ago after a motor swap when I was guessing the timing for initial startup.

 

Yes, you'll get that exhaust pop "even" with an automatic (almost exactly the same engine between 5AT and 6MT, bar the RevUp variants). As Cleric said, stock exhaust will make it almost impossible, but once you free up some flow (HFC/catback does the trick), high RPM pops are easy (HFC is the more important part). I have resonated HFC and a Tanabe catback, often cited as the one of the more quiet aftermarket setups, and my car still pops like crazy above 4.5k once I let off the throttle (revving while in park to 6k yields some impressive noises.

Just don't be the guy that gets a G35 and just revs constantly. Time and place for the VQ ruckus.
