Hey friends, does this valve cover kit look too good to be true? It's selling for $60 something!

It's both the left and right side with gaskets, and seems to be the exact fit for the RWD VQ cars. Has anyone purchased this kit before?

I have a leaking passenger side valve cover, so this kit has my interest.

 

Does seem to good to be true. Are your spark plug tube seals leaking? If not, you could get by with just replacing the VC gasket. Some people use RTV to seal the tube seals as a fix. Either way, you'll need to use rtv in some areas for the valve cover gasket to get a good seal

 

Yeah I have oil in a spark plug. I wasn't going to address it since it doesn't seem to be a problem for anyone in the long run. But, if the cost of parts is only $65 I may reconsider.

 

There's quite a few different vendors selling these in that price range so it's probably NOT a scam. I can't quite tell from the photo if these are rebuilds that have been drilled out and had the spark plug well seals replaced (which is what I suspect) or if they are newly manufactured chinese knockoffs (which would be fine as well).

Either way for that price you can't really argue, as long as they fit properly they'll work just fine there's no moving parts and it's not exactly a CRITICAL component that has big complex parts that can fail and cause other problems. It's literally a plastic box that holds a few gaskets in place...

I was wondering when folks would get around to just replacing the gaskets, when I did mine it took about 15 minutes to drill everything out once I had built a jig for it. There's probably a huge graveyard of old OEM VC's around somewhere and it only cost me $25 for a new spark plug well gasket kit.

 

What has me questioning the quality is how many different vehicles it says it fits. Like the maxima. You can use a maxima valve cover but the passenger side needs modification if I remember correctly. There was a good thread on this a while back. But the ebay kit says it will work for g35 and maxima.

I bought the drivers side cover for $80 on ebay and it's been working fine so far

 

If you do buy these let us know how they work out for you. I'm in need of a set also and would love to save a couple hundred $$. I will probably still buy the felpro gaskets just because I've heard they are the best quality

 

If I do I'll certainly let everyone know. It's hard to find the motivation when I know it's not the most serious maintenance item, haha.

 

I wouldnt say its serious, but a leaking spark plug seal can definitely lead to misfires and a bad pack. I just have the slightest leak from the gasket only when driving
