Hey all, I’ve been the proud owner of an ‘05 G sedan 6MT for the last six years, and have put over 150k on her myself, bringing the grand total to 205k. She sees occasional track weekends, but is mostly just my DD. With a couple of problems surfacing over the last few months, I’ve determined that it’d be more cost effective to replace my engine rather than replace my timing chain and tensioners, valve seals, rings, and exhaust cam sensors/actuators. I scored a hell of a deal on a low-mileage revup, which is supposedly identical to the revup that is currently in my G. I was told it was out of an ‘05 sedan, but after looking at bell housing bolt patterns in my Haynes manual, it looks that it might have came from an ‘04. Should the ‘04 engine bolt right up to my ‘05 trans?
The rev-up motor was used on '05-'07 sedans and coupes equipped with a manual transmission. Automatic transmission vehicles ALL came with the non-rev-up version, you can easily identify the two from the front of the engine because the rev-up will have an extra cam actuator as well as TWO phase sensors on the back of each head (one angle head and one straight head connector on each side). In this picture the one on the RIGHT SIDE is the rev-up.
The bellhousing bolt pattern is exactly the same because the short block is the same on both engines, the major difference in the rev-up was the heads, timing cover, exhaust phase sensor, exhaust cam actuator, oil pump.
Are you sure it's a VQ35DE ? They have the same bellhousing regardless of application but you can only use a donor from a 350Z, G35, (if non-revup also M35) the rest of the VQ35DE's used in things like maxima/altima/frontier/etc all have different deck heights and motor mount locations. The VQ40DE from the Nissan Frontier definitely has a different bellhousing but I don't know how you could confuse it with a VQ35DE because the throttle body is on the wrong side, same with VQ35HR and VQ37VHR and the dual throttle bodies.
Thanks for the insight. My G has the revup motor, as does my donor motor, so I shouldn’t have any issues from how it sounds. Thanks for the link to the FSM as well!

I’ve got an auto 2003 g35 And im looking for an engine. I can’t seem to figure out if the 06-08 fx35 vq35de will match my bellhousing. There’s 4th digit d,c,a that I think should fit. Also looking at the m35 de. Anyone know if these will fit?
Google search for G35/350Z HR swap, basically you need the engine, transmission, wiring harness, ECM, some modifications to the power steering lines. Also need the alternator and starter from the HR. Exhaust you should stick with the HR headers, cats/test pipes, and ideally the HR y-pipe. Mid pipe and muffler you can keep your existing stuff.
Guilty Garage can do the wiring harness modifications.
Not sure I know of any HR swaps that kept the air conditioning.
