To Anyone with ART Downpipes...

If you’re reading this, how do they sound in the cab? My exhaust has stock downpipes, Walker OEM Y-Pipe and Mid-Pipe, and then a muffler delete. I want to keep the resonator since a resonator delete/test pipes sound similar in my opinion, so before I look deeper into ART Down Pipes, how is the sound in the cab? I’m not too worried about exterior sound. Thanks!

Are you talking about on a stock exhaust?

Sedan or Coupe?

V35 or V36?

Yeah, just wondering how those test pipes would sound on my 2005 6MT Coupe. It currently has a Walker Midpipe to a muffler delete.

It's relatively drone free, but does get raspy on stock exhaust (on single exit V35 rev-up sedan). I installed on my stock exhaust, then pretty quickly uninstalled because of the rasp, then very quickly reinstalled because the power gains were too good to ignore. Pretty soon after I built a custom exhaust to eliminate the rasp, and am very, very happy. Veeeeeery happy. Inappropriately happy.

Before I went custom I contacted Tony at Motordyne about the rasp, he said the XYZ resonated mid-pipe will make a big difference, but you'll always get some when you neck down from the dual 2.5" (ART pipes) to the stock single 2.5" cat-back. Best thing you can do is upgrade to a decent 3" cat-back.

Because I just re-re-built the exhaust yesterday and I'm pretty high on my own supply - I cut up a POS 2.5" ebay y-pipe and y'd directly into a vibrant muffler (p# 1111, ran it backwards so it was dual 2.5" in, single 3" out), then through a pair of vibrant 3" resonators (#1142), and finally exiting out of another #1111 at the tips (correct orientation this time, single 3" in, dual 2.5" out). It's subtle enough for highway cruising and putzing around under the radar, but it's still essentially straight-piped, so it'll get raunchy when you saddle up and go for it.
