6MT heel and toe vs 05+ 5AT manualmatic
Since I have a 03 6MT and a 05 5AT, I decided to do some transmission comparison the other day. I took some hot corners and downshift to second and then punch the gas on the exit. As most of you already know, the 05+ manualmatic transmission rev matches between downshifts to create a seemless transition in power.
I hate to admit it, but I can take that corner a lot better with the manualmatic clicking rather than my attempt at heel and toe shifting.

I've tried both (admittedly, the manual much much longer than the auto-stick), and I have to say I like heel-toeing a lot more than the auto-stick downshift.
It's not snobbery, I swear! I don't make any claims to be a race driver or even a skilled driver, but I do think it's more involving, which I like as a self-admitted pansy monday-sunday daily driver.

Hate to break it to you, but its your driving.

by heal toe, i mean bandaging my big toe immediately after injury.
jk
heel-toe: "toes" on brake, heel on gas (some people do it the other way)
application (for me): about to enter corner at speed, apply brake with toes, clutch in, gear in neutral, clutch out, blip throttle with heel, clutch in, hit lower gear, clutch out. Repeat as needed.
Unless you're trail braking, you don't brake during corner. Unless you didn't brake enough before hand. Well, as far as I know. But then again, I have no track experience, so take all that with a grain of salt.

Toe heel braking is not something you will pickup in one weekend. It sure is fun to be able to do it properly. That tiptronic thingy is great too but most traditional stick drivers still prefer the direct mechanical connection between the flywheel and the tires.
There's really no need to toe heel brake with our modern ABS equiped cars. You can apply enough force to reach the point of lockup just with the brake alone without the engine's help.
We should call it toe heel shifting. It does let you get in the right gear without jerking the tranny and disturb the balance of your car through a curve and let's you seamlessly power out of a turn.
People toe heel downshift sequentially through every gear (5-4-3-2) in the older cars with crapping brakes. But with modern abs cars that slows down in a hurry, you can down shift straight to the proper gear (say 5-2) to power out of the turn.
of course some argue that toe heel braking will help make your brakes last longer on the track...

^ Right on. Just another benefit of big feet. But I have depressed the gas slightly while braking to a stop. These pedals are set up great for the technique.
My preivous beater/commuter car was an '03 Chevy Cavalier 5-speed, which I extracted the most out of on nearly every outing. After heel/toe'ing that POS for a couple of years, when I got into the G the technique felt absolutely telepathic because the car is so receptive to it.
As long as I don't have really bad issues with it down the line, I really love this 6MT.
