I don't think so. How does the homelink learn the algorithm? It's not like the transmitter sends the algorythm to the homelink. The learn button on the garage door opener, is so it can learn the fixed code from the homelink (which effectively disabled your rolling code).

If it was really learning the code-rolling algorithm, than I shouldn't have had a problem getting it to learn the code for the gate, in my brother-in-law's gated community.

You've got to get this fixed quickly. You don't want the garage door closing when you are driving through.

 

Most garage door openers have two settings, one for tension (how hard the door bottom presses down to the floor) and sensitivity (how easily it reverses if it feels an obstruction on the way down). If these are both set fairly high, the door can sit there 99% of the time just on the verge of reversing. All it takes is a change in temperature, some thermal expansion/contraction, and the door reverses and goes up, seemingly at random. Back off the tension and/or sensitivity settings and see the problem improves.

 

if u find u can't reset the car's homelink ... why don't u just reset it from the garage door's side? i did this on mine when my cars got stolen. usually it's just a matter of holding the button on the garage door motor down and then re-programming your transmitters. check your manual. if u don't have a rolling code on your garage door motor then u should have some dip switches to select a different transmit code... again, just check your manual.

 

It sounds like a faulty button on the HL.
Did you try clearing & then programming a different button?

When you initially program your HL, it recognizes when it sees a rolling code. You then have to press the learn button on the garage door opener to teach the HL the rolling code. The rolling code technology is the same as used in aftermarket alarms and prevents someone from using an RF code grabber to steal your code. People aren't willing to give up this security just to use their HL. HL doesn't disable the rolling code. It learns it because HL has relationships within the industry which allow them access to the rolling code technology. HL works with RF freqs between 288MHz and 418MHz (except for FCC restricted ranges). It's possible that you brother's gate uses a different freq. It's also possible that it uses a rolling code (although unlikely) and you'd have to have the HL learn the algorithm by pressing some kind of button on the gate control.

could the button be stuck in ON position or maybe from vibration of the car somehow it makes contact....

 

Did you do any kind of hardwiring of anything into the Homelink circuit??

 

It started happenin the day after I first programmed the homelink, which was a few days after I bought the car (mid dec 05)

This weekend Imma try reprogrammin, erasin, etc, see wat happens, otherwise Ill wait for my appt on monday for service so they can tell me that I belong in a loony bin
