motor oil at express oil service

Does anyone know what kind of oil they use at those express oil change shops for example Jiffy Lube. I tried going directly to there site but they give no info on what kind of oil they offer.

I know they don't use mobil 1 but was wondering if there type of synthetic would be alright in my G.

Thanks for any input.

I don't think they will even do an oil change on a g, based on having to remove the plasic below the engine

I use Jiffy Lube for 2 years to change oil. Always request Mobil 1 and best oil filter. About $50 in 15 min done, including Sat and Sunday. Recommend.

^ $50? wow...that's an expensive oil change especially when you compare it to the dealers $20-30 price. Lemme ask...does it mean the dealer's oil isn't the best for our ryde?

I doubt you'll get a synthetic (Mobil 1) change at the dealer for $20-30....

The dealer's regular dino is good, and all that's required....but if you want the extra protection and a little less friction, get the synth.

He wrote Mobile1 for $50 which is not bad.

I don't think the mechanics will have much trouble removing the little plastic below the engine.

Over a pit, and with the proper speed wrenches, it would take about 2 minutes. Cake.

Jiffy Lube in the Bellevue,WA area were using Pennzoil about 6 weeks ago. They will use anything you bring in and I think stock Mobil1 also. Fram filters, generic window washer fluid. I always pop the hood before leaving and make sure the oil filler cap is screwed in, air filter enclosure closed and no obvious leaks while the engine is running and check to make sure all the valve stem covers are back in place.

The fact they use fram filters should be enough to scare you away.
Sure, they can remove your lower plastic engine cover in under 2 minutes. I wouldn't count on them re-installing it correctly. (Or even at all).

They accidently drained the tranny fluid on my brothers car, and didn't bother to refill it.

I wouldn't go to Jiffy Lube if it was free. You might get by once or twice but sooner or later their "CRACK mechanics" will forget something, leave something off or at least "lounge" all over your paint job.
Years ago I drove off to hear my under engine cover dragging on the ground to learn they had somehow left out over half the screws. My advice ...... if you can't WATCH the oil being changed ,do it yourself!

I would be pissed if they didn't put back the plastic bottom.

This really would depend on who's under your car.

Thanks for the input guys, when I heard the word penzoil, that's when I remembered that was the kind of oil Jiffy Lube normally uses. They probably would use any oil you bring to them but then how much would it costs purchasing your own oil?

About that 20-30 dollar oil change at the dealer... sounds like an oil change with regular oil. Synthetic oil has to be about 20-30 dollars more than that.

If you were to buy 6 bottles of Mobil 1 it would cost about 30 bucks alone.

That's why you go to walmart. They sell Mobile-1 in 5 quart containers, and it only costs $21. I've seen it on sale for less than 20 before too. Like 17 bucks or something like that.

As for jiffy lube. My cousin likes going there. He brings his own oil and filter, but Jiffy lube will still charge you the same price. I'd rather just do it myself. Even if you don't have a garage, just do it somewhere else.

I've seen people change their oil in the parking lot of an auto-parts store. Then they carry the used oil inside to recycle it. Heck, I've even showed a coworker how to change his brakes in the parking lot at work
