After reading many posts about the difficulty of replacing the dipstick after checking the oil, I decided to try it today on my '06 sedan.
I agree, it's a little difficult removing it to get an accurate reading, but replacing it was a breeze. I don't understand why so many are having problems with it.

 

That is just wonderful Mr. W . I need some lessons real bad . I have a heck of a time doing that dirty deed. You must be related to the engineers that designed it then j/k.

 

I admit, it is in an awkward place, but I hold the dipstick about halfway down with my left hand, and guide it into the hole, and then just push gently with my right hand holding the upper portion.
I would be happy to show you, next time you are in the area

 

it would take me at least a 23 hour drive, but I appreciate the offer .

 

The drive will be shorter than the time it takes to get the d#@* dipstick back in.
...And you won’t look as stupid.

 

The dip-stick in our cars are horrible and just junk....yet another way infiniti cheaped out for its "luxury" G35.... hehehe...

it should slide in with one hand, and in the dark....unless you are a two handed guy lol.......

 

checkin oil in our cars sucks... being forced induction im constantly checking my **** and have become quite the dipsticker .. it is a pain but im pretty quick now

 

I'm getting the hang of it but I agree that it could be easier. Sometimes I need a flashlight.

 

also let the car sit for a while or you will get innacurate readings

 

It might be easier checking it during the day. Or do you still need a flashlight during the day ?

I haven't timed it, but I think it would only take me about 10 seconds to remove/replace my dipstick.
I don't understand why so many of you are having difficulty.

 

I agree lighting is a big part of the problem.
An under hood light near the 'stick is on my to do list.

 

I keep a mini-Mag-lite in the glovebox so it's handy for when I want to check my oil level. I find it even helps during the daytime.
