Cracked windshield

So I went to wash my car today and noticed a chip on the windshield only to go in the car and see this 3 inch crack in the windshield! Ruined my day. Anyway called the insurance and I'm getting it repaired on Saturday. They said they may not need to replace it, but how do you fix cracked glass?? Has anyone had this done? How did it turn out?

Fill it with a clear resin.

It's definately not smaller than a quarter, it's 3 in. long! But they said they could as long as it's about the size of a credit card.

actually just took a look at it on the way home from work, it got BIGGER. It's now like 6-7 in. long. Looks like it's gonna have to be completely replaced now.

Make sure that you WATCH the guy doing the windshield replacement!!

When I had mine done the guy broke both of the moldings that go over the side windows.

That body molding from the A piller to the C pillar on the sides of the car has to be taken off the get the front windshield out. When he was trying to get it off he broke like 3-4 clips on both sides and he had to replace both of them...

The crap thing about it was he actually said "If you weren't watching me you would have never noticed that, look... It is secure in there"

I said "That's exactly why I am watching you!"

Have it done on a day off from work and do yourself a favor and watch the work being done on your car.

Thanks, but since it can't be repaired it now has to be replaced which means this is a regular insurance claim where I have to pay my 250 deductable. I'm gonna see if I can take it to the dealer.

my windshield just cracked last month too... I figure I will wait until spring before I fix it.

Anyway the dealer wants $850 for OEM glass, safelite and other 3rd party glass dealers will fix it for about $180.

They say the glass is the same, if not stronger then the soft OEM glass..

Get no-deductible glass coverage from MetLife Auto/Home. They have replaced two windshields and 1 sunroof for me at no charge. Pretty much free insurance so far (until they cancel me)

Check YOUR STATE's laws. FLORIDA gives 1 free windshield per year through insurance no deductible no price hike. has to be bigger than dollar bill but they really dont check when u call them on phone

FIXED! Total cost was about $600 for everything. The insurance said I needed to pay my deductable so I ended up paying 250 for it. Not too bad.
