I get a good "clunk" sound too. Usually when going from 1st to 2nd, and almost always when the car is cold. For the first mile or so after I pull out of the garage it always shifts hard and noisy, but it seems to smooth out and quiet down once the car is warm. My buddy drives a Toyota Matrix that has a smoother 6 speed than ours. Pi$$es me off.

Next, the question... How many of you have a "clunk" sound when shifting from 1st to 2nd, especially when trying to shift quickly (depress clutch fast) from 1st to 2nd? I've had this issue ever since I got the car last year and the only way I've managed to avoid the sound and feel was to slowly and carefully press the clutch in OR when shifting from 1st to 2nd during a turn (interesting). I've never been able to quickly shift from 1st to 2nd on a straight away without this "clunk" of a sound.

Anyone have the same issue with their 6mt? I know there was a thread long ago about this but I wanted to see if more are having this problem since then? Or is it not a problem and I just need to learn to shift this car better.

Thanks in advance for any input.
Yea I got it too, I actually posted about this in another thread. the clunk doesnt happen all the time, couple of times in a 50 min commute ... mostly when cold. I sometimes have it from 2nd to 3rd too, but it doesnt happen quite as often (meaning, very very rarely) and isnt as "bad" sounding. I am not sure if it has anything to do with how you press the clutch, I have done it very fast, disengagng the clutch all the way before shifting and not get the sound. I have also done it with and without VDC on, doesnt seem to make a difference.

I have it too. I can hear it very slightly even if I am not moving and push the clutch in and let it out. The transmission is definitely the weak link in this car.

Sorry to dig up this old thread, but did anyone who went to get their car checked at the dealer get a resolution? I'm getting this "clunk" too, when I make the shift from 1->2 before I let go of the clutch.

My Porsche is 5spd and it clunks changing from low gears. It's the joy of owning a manual tranny.
