Angry WTF !!! $1300 for stereo install (cross post)

I purchased the following on ebay & other sites -
JL Audio 500/5 Amp; JL Audio 10W6v2 10" Sub; 4080 Box; Infinity Kappa 60.7CS 6-1/2" (Front); Infinity Kappa 63.7i 6-1/2" (Rear Side)

There is an installer in my area (Burlington, NJ) that does great work. I asked him to give me a quote for the installation job. I know that it will be a bit high since I have my own equipment and he does not get the profit on that.

Today he quoted me $1300 for the install.
WTF !!!
I think he just does not want to do the job so is driving me away with the high $$$

What do you think?

Anybody want to recommend a reasonably priced but good installer in NJ; NYC or Philly areas

How far are you from Glen Rock, NJ??

My installer charged me $1k but it was mostly custom work.
I think your install will probably come out to $500-600.
Thats my estimate and i still consider that on the highside.
Let me know if you want the # ill give it to you in PM.
I'll show you the work he did for me

You can try Audio Designs in Hicksville. I sent Queens350Z there for an amp and TV screen install and they did a nice job. They are located 1 mile south of the IKEA (LIE & Northern State - on 106/107 aka N. Broadway). May be a lil far for you though. It's about 28 miles east of Manhattan.

I can also vouch for GLEX since I have seen it in person and it looks great!

$1300? OUCH! Duc's chop-shop is now officially open for business! Man that's steep for what, an amp, a sub and speaker install, that's all? Anything custom or required fabrication? Put it this way, I'm no audio expert or anything like that, but I have put together a few systems in my days, and correct me if I'm wrong but this is how I would go about such an install and what it would take. I will assume you'll wire up the amps inputs through the radios outs at the stock amp in the trunk? No need to go straight to the radio. Then I assume a good power line from the battery to the amp with a at least 1 farad cap (or even 1/2) inline with some solid fuses. Ground will be easy and I'm sure we can find a turn on power lead off the stock amp. Now I guess its just a matter of taking the doors apart to it in the new speakers and components. You can always use the stock wires, but even if you wanted to run something a little more heavy duty, I don't see that being a big deal. Conect everything up, set the gains and crossovers on the amp (if it has any) and you're basicallly done. You're looking at a few hours of work, but def NOT $1300 worth of work! I think even at HALF that amount you're still paying too much, but then again I guess it allso fall down to what kind of hardware you're going to get for the install...

Damn! They do good work I cant believe they quoted you so much, there not that good, its not like they are fabricating anything for you. Maybe you should re confirm the price, maybe they missed a decimal place
There is always that Boomer Mccloud/installtion depot what ever the hell its called on 206 but the guy that works there seems to be a real jerk and I cant say I have ever heard anything good about them…?

good luck with the install
