are you going to go with something like the DigitalWheelz screen setup?, i don't remember if you have navi or not

i was toying with the idea of integrating a Mac Mini into my car... since it's so small, self contained, and quiet, but they're hella expensive. i ultimately scrapped the carputer idea b/c the only screen i have is the navi one, so i wouldn't be able to run a touchscreen

whatever you do, i recommend a power supply specifically designed for a carputer, as it will be a DC to DC unit, rather than converting DC(car) to AC(household) [with an inverter] and then from AC back to DC(computer).

i think these power supplies also have software that can suspend the computer when you turn off the car and wake it up when you turn it back on, so you don't have to wait 2 minutes for boot every time you get in the car, but don't quote me on that

nah im going with a custom setup im gonna use a the xenarc touch screen.
i have navi so i cant use the didital wheels setup. but what i am going to do is get the double din dash/ the ac controller and jus mold that screen into the double din.
yea and i was definately gonna use the power supply specifically designed for a carputer. and Steve your right about the start up and shut down. its not software its actually a chip that goes onto the power supply and u can set it to how long u want the comp to stay on once u turn the car off.

I have been working with a friend of mine on his sti's carputer. He has xentac touch screen with a micro atx pc. Before he mounted it into his trunk, I was able to fit it into the arm rest of my G & fit like a glove. The atx case was 500 bucks with all the bells & whistles in it. when we get his subi's pc up and running; I will post some pics. I will also have the same setup when it's all done .All I can say now is that it's sick.

I have the DigitalWheelz Xenarc touchscreen but you can get an idea about my setup here:

https://g35driver.com/forums/g35-coupe-v35-2003-07/62636-computer-geeks-carputer-v2-0-project-few-pics-video.html

BTW, im not sure about the touchscreen there to replace the Bose. Reason is you can try and use progs like Radiator to get radios but you'll lose steering wheel controls, etc. Also I thought the location was kinda low to have a screen down there to keep using.

I feel like I got the best of both worlds. Still got to keep my stock in dash Bose HU and have it hooked up to my sub/amp and then still have my touchscreen for DVD/NAV/MP3. I also do have the Opus power supply which starts up the computer on ignition and shuts down after 10 seconds when I turn off the car (Thats a jumper setting on the PS).

Sorry I really didnt show you the setup at the 13th meet but maybe next time.

yea definately
i wish i checked it out aug 13th...
im doing sumthing simular
im gonna just remove my stock Hu and mold a touch screen into it place.
i was really worried about not being able to have the radio anymore...but honeslty if u have like a 300gb HDD with all the movies/ music videos/ mp3 and other media, do you really need the radio? i understand if u listen to AM for sports and stuff but i do not so it doesnt apply to me.

this is what i want to do but im gonna try to get a more flush result

Props to Izik
for th sweet install

Yeah hopefully you dont have a problem touching any of the buttons with it being in that spot.

What you SHOULD do (if you wanna spend the money) and what I am going to do is get a Sirius USB interface or you can always get XM which will just be used straight through your carputer anyways. There's free front-ends that interface directly through them (I use Frodo right now which interfaces XM and he's working on a Sirius module). The end result is pretty damn sweet.
