Carputer installed! (many many pics)

My in car computer installation has completed
The computer is responsible for navigation, MP3 music playback, video playbkac, web browsing, traffic reporting, gaming and anything else a computer is capable of

The system utilizes a VIA Epia M10000 mainboard, 256MB PC2100, 40GB 2.5" 5400RPM HD, 802.11g PCI card with external magmount 7dbi antenna, Opus DC-DC 90W PSU
Note that Im not using an inverter in this setup but rather a specialized in vehicle computer powersupply made by Opus Solutions. It regulates the DC battery voltage to a proper 12v and then also provides the startup and shutdown control for the computer (controlled upon ignition/acc wire)

Here are pictures detailing the progress and final result

To house the motherboard, I constructued a fiberglass mounting surface. This was my first time fiberglassing or doing anything similar to this so it isnt masterful but I am not a master.
Masked off area where fiberglass is to be applied

Further masking now with foil

Result before trimming edges

Motherboard mounting surface

Fabric stretched

Carpet applied

Here is the rest of the build

The motherboard, hard drive and Opus PSU with motherboard mounting surface

All the wires

I used RG59 coaxial for audio. Its cheaper than good RCA interconnects and provides decent audio quality. Here is the coax feeding into coax to RCA adapters and then into an RCA to 1/8in adapter

DigitalWheelz LCD housing (Xenarc 700TSV)

Car in a state of shambles

My dog keeping me company

Inline fused battery connection fed through the stock grommet

Battery connection fed down into the passenger side behind the kick panel

Power wires running under the carpet

Running through a convenient plastic thing (thanks Nissan!) to the rear of the back seats

Through the plastic square and into the trunk

The ground location I chose

Backseat taken out; you can see the cables run on the opposite side of the car (VGA, audio, USB)

All cables run to my trunk location

Car ripped apart - very sad looking. I had to drive the car around like this (minus the headunit) for 2 days. Got quite a few looks. People probably though I stole it

Harnesses

Headunit/HVAC removed

Work begins on integrating the DigitalWheelz mount

Plastic piece cut to fit LCD controller PCB

I think not!

Frontend software

Music

GPS

Desktop

Goooooooooooogle

Well thats it

I had a carputer setup in my previous car (93 Accord) but this is most definitely an evolution from that. Ive learned a lot just from experience. No one taught me anything really, just experimented, made mistakes, learned and dove in.

Im very pleased with the results

If you have any questions Ill do my best to answer them

Very nice work, real clean job of running the wires!

What are you using for Nav?
What were some of the problems you ran into?
