Speeding Ticket help

Alright fellas, I neva thought I'd be posting one of these for myself but I guess I was wrong. And I mean who would think with how slow I drive too...

Anyhow I got me a speeding ticket doing 80 in a 50 zone. I need some advice, references to lawyers maybe and so forth. Never dealt with one of these before and I mean I don't want the points. The fines I don't care about but the points is what I m really trying not to have. I know these posts are definitely poppin up way too much these days.

Well I dunno any advice that can help the situation or educate me on what to do would be great. Thanks in advance.

ALWAYS Plead "Not Guilty" and fight it in court... It then takes a good 6-12months before your court date. When you schedule your court date and appearance, an officer at the court will call your name and negotiate. It won't go on your record until AFTER your court date... so no points, etc.

If you've got a clean record, they'll 90% of the time negotiate with you to talk it down... to which you agree to a lesser charge (which you have to plead guilty to or dropped completely depending on the officer/judge's mood for the day).

In the end, it's all about the city/court getting their money... it's all politics. They get their money, and you're outta there... I got my 80 in a 55 reduced to a 60 in 55mph last year. It beats getting 8points vs. 3points... (in NY, 11points total means suspension...)

Good luck...
PM me if you have some questions... or gimme a call.

J

If you got the ticket in Nassau, I tell you what to do. Only In Nassau. Look at the back of the ticket, You plead not guilty and mark for a depression <A statement from the cop. Then have 30 days sent it to you. At the end of the 30 days, go to the courts and ask to though out the ticket, because you didn't get the cop statement. IT'S THE LAW. Cops don't have the time for this type of paper work. One more thing, You have 48 hours after the ticket to send it back. Return reciept. and cerified mail.
