New cars...scratched?

Today I went to the dealership again and saw a dozen of new coupes sitting outside. They were dirty unsurprisingly, but I was shocked that every car has some amount of scratches. Most could be seem all over the hood and front side panels...I mean are they actually going to fix it before selling to us? The scratches ain't light...some are pretty deep. Even with new paint jobs I'd be little pissed about how they treat those cars...

its pretty much inevitable... the dealer washes their inventory cars all the time. You take it in for service or repair, they wash it, unless you specifically tell them not to, and maybe even then.

You wash it yourself, its one little slip up, 1 dirty towel, 1 bad chamois or wash mit.... and you get swirls.

All it takes is one bad wash.

This sounds like residue adhesive from the plastic they come with for protection. When I bought mine I though they were scratches too and the guy explained it and showed it to me. When I went back to the dealer with the wife to finish the paperwork, she swore up and down those were scratches too.

Re: New cars...scratched?

I wouldn't be surprised if they were scratches with my experiences with the purchase of my G35c.

Seems like the cars may be roughed up a bit on their way to the dealers. My original dealer claimed that my originally ordered G35c fell off of the transporter when being loaded at port and was totalled. They only offered to put me back on the order list for another couple of months.

I simply said thanks but no thanks and took my money to a different dealer.

All I can say is if the car(s) don't look right you have the option to take your business elsewhere. After all there are plenty of other Infiniti dealerships in the country.

I'll bet $50 those "scratches" are dust collecting on the adhesive residue from the protective covering places on the cars during transport.

Re: New cars...scratched?

Well guys, I can relate to this. I purchased my 04 G35 (preorder) and didn't get to pick it up until night time, so the car looked pristine. The next day I went into my garage to leave for work and saw a bunch of scratches, under the clear coat, on the edge of the trunk (where a spoiler would usually go) and up the left side pillar of the rear windsheild. So I called and the service rep said bring it in its probably just residue from the stickers so we'll give you a nice detail job. They even gave me a rental car. So after that was done I did a quick glance over and it looked good, except for one left by the taillight, but then the next day I went to pull out of the garage and theree they were, the same scratches. Depending on the light conditions and way you look at it is how bad they look. So I called back and the service rep was like ok i need to get a paint inspector to come look at it so we can get it resolved. I had to keep calling to check if they ever got an inspector but they never did. Finally some manager called me the other day and mentioned the scratches. She was very symphathetic and said give it to us monday for a few days, the body shop will do a color sand to get rid of them, so this is goign to happen next week. I'll keep you guys updated.

BTW this is tustin infiniti

Re: New cars...scratched?

Just an update on this topic. The scratches can't even be removed by doing a color sand, they're pretty deep. As of now they're repainting that part of the car and swear up and down that I wont be able to tell. I'll keep you guys updated.

Depending upon where they are repainting, be glad that at least that part will not get paint chips as we have now discovered with the paint in this country being superior to Japans. It would be convenient if it was the front bumper or hood. Unfortunately, It's still a hassal and an unecessary pain.

Re: New cars...scratched?

So would everyone recommend picking up your car in the daytime to see the scatches easier? I'm thinking either white or CB and I would think it would be harder to see scratches on the white in the daytime due to reflecting sun and easier to see scratches at night on the caribbean blue due to the darker color. I have a white prelude and scratches are hard to pick up unless you know where they are and really examine for it.

Re: New cars...scratched?

I picked my car up 2 weeks ago and it waiting for me on the showroom floor under the lights. I was able to see the slightest dust partical. Not one imperfection. I was lucky. I asked before I came to pick it up to have the car under lights for me to inspect.

Re: New cars...scratched?

I had the same experience. They had the car completely detailed and in the showroom. I almost didn't want to touch it becuse it looked so good and clena and new. Not a scratch on it.

I took it to the dealer to have the brake lamp switch replaced (the recall) and the washed it. I looked over and it looked decent, when i got it home, I did a more thourough inspection and found several scratches and swirls on it. I tried waxing to get them out and they won't budge. I called the dealer and they said that there isn't much they can do about it.

Never again will I let a dealer wash my car.

Re: New cars...scratched?

Have them park it in a shaded area during the day. Look at parts of the car at all angles. The scratches I have are mostly visible when my head is almost perched on the right side of the trunk lid.
