I suck at installing overlays

First attempt at installing bats overlays on the back lights... I suck!!! I couldnt get them to not crease at the edges when I tried to blow dry them... i did this in the garage at 11pm with a lamp so... im going to try again tommorow maybe ill have better luck in the daylight... my girlfriend saw me trying to install them with the trunk closed and suggested I opened the trunk when I do them... im an idiot haha thats a really good idea, ill try it tommorow. Just wondering if you guys had any secret tips :0/ If you have installed them yourself or have them installed on ur car, along the edges are there creases? if not, how do you remove the creases on the vinyl has started to dry? thx!!!

Oh for you guys who had your overlays installed, where did you go? Tint shops or is there some special name for the kind of shop that does vinyl work that i should be searching for? I cant find one..

I tried to do the rears and they are hard as you have to stretch them and dry at the same time to get rid of the creases. I had a local tint shop do mine and they charged $40, it was well worth it as I watched them do it. They also did this with the trunk closed.

its not tha you sux, but overlays in general suck they ae not made corectly, they are thw wrong size, and most people who install them do a bad job. i had a tinter do my headlights, they cae out like crap becaue they ae cut wrong. you cant put a piec of vinyl on a curved surface with out it bubbling, needs to be flat. all in all they suck, not you!

it takes alot of patience.
I installed the GTR style overlays on my '05 Sedan.

The '05 sedan taillights are difficult in themselves just because of the bump out on the side of the lamp. Them, you add the GTR circle cutouts into the mix, and you need to have alot fo patience, time, and a little skill.

I screwed up one of the overlays, and I had to order another one.

I ended up figuring it out. (don't use a heat gun. use a hairdryer), but it took me the better part of 3 hours to do each side. There was alot of "starting over." I would think I had it, only to realize that I needed to stretch the film more in one area, etc. I'd peel the whole thing off, soap the taillights down again, and start working it!

BTW, if you can get a tinter to do it for $40, go for it.

Sorry to hear that man. I just replied to your other thread with my install guide:

http://www.scionlife.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=34653

Email me. I can hook you up with another set at discount . It does require a good bit of patience to install certain kits, but the results are well worth the effort as you can see from my Gallery . I have alot more pics I will be adding to my gallery in the near future . As fart as fitment goesm the key is to get it placed correctly onto the surface and work from the middle out. Going from one side to the other may not be the best method as the vinyl may settle differently and make it seem the cut is not correct.
