Agg! Huge Gash in 18" wheels!
Yeah, so I get out of this hand carwash place and go down the road to El Pollo Loco...when I get out of there I look at my car and notice a huge.. 1"-1.5" gash in my wheel. At first I thought it was just dirt, but then realized it was a gash. That sucks..I've only had my car for 1000 miles and it has a gash in it. I thought it was the carwash place, cause I could swear it wasn't there a day or two ago. There is some sort of guardrail they put the cars on, and put them in neutral and it pushes them through as they was it...It looks like its always touching my wheels/tires so I figured that was it. I told the manager and he showed me the guardrail and it was cylinder shaped so I can't really see how that would have done it.
When it boils down to it I guess I don't know what happened, and I'm not going to put the blame on the car wash place when I'm not sure it's them.
So I will swallow my pride, and look at the reality of it.
It's just a gash. It's just a car. It's just an object. If I would have bought a crappier car I wouldn't have cared that much, but since I bought a really nice car that is a price I have to pay...caring if there is a gash in one of the wheels.
I'll get over it soon enough, thanks for letting me vent.

Re: Agg! Huge Gash in 18" wheels!
Don't feel bad because on my third day, my brother took my car out for a joy ride and for some reason I had a feeling that he was going to take it to the car wash to show it off and right when I was calling him, my nightmare became a reality, he said they are done washing my car, I was like "Noooooooooooo", Well guess what 1/2 chip on the front 18"s and a 1 inch dent on my rear quarter panel. Unbelievable, I really can't blame the car wash because I have no proof, but I was going to wash my baby for as long as I owned it, I don't even want anyone else to sit in my seat. I do not blame my brother because he is my blood and the car again is only an object of transportation. O' I have to stop because I'm having misty eyes. Take care and peace.

This care requires a whole new level of care when driving it on the streets. Avoid potholes at all costs, pull into places (with inclined entrances) at very slow speeds, take it nice and slow on speed bumps, and also make sure not to hit the curb when parallel parking. Just be very careful and don't let other people drive your car. =)

Yea, there are already stories of folks taking their G to the dealer and coming out with wheel damage. The rims are so flat and wide that there is hardly any rubber protecting the side of the wheel. This is particulary important when curb parking and when selecting your car wash, Q.E.D.

Krunko...
You said it was a "hand carwash" place, but they put your car on a track? Guess I'm not picturing that one. They don't have any of those up here in CT. I've got to say though...I learned a valuable lesson after my last car: NEVER let anyone (or anything) wash your car for you!!
I took my brand new '97 black Eclipse GS-T to a "cloth-only" car wash, and then almost fainted when I saw the swirl marks afterwards. Never again will I be lazy!

"Car Wash Blues"........had the same problem a week into ownership, gouged drivers side rear. It was the rail on the car wash entry track. Attendent tried to jack the car around on a tight left to line up to the rails. Car wash comped me a dozen washes. Made sure I got to know the Manager when I started using this car wash (two years now).
I stand by the car observing as they line up to the rails letting them know ahead of time the previous damage they caused. Not a problem since.
Are you in Irvine, CA...Alton area? There's a Pollo Loco just down from my carwash place.

Ok, well an update on the situation. I didn't think it made sense that the carwash place would have done that..adn I remembered, two or three nights before that there was a bunch of shrapnel on the road from various cars that were involved in an accident on the 5.
Well I couldn't really avoid a piece of car on the road since it came up so quick, and ran over it. When I got to my destination I didn't see anything messed up on the bumper or any paint problems, so I thought everything was ok. So...well I told my friends who were in my car with me, and they said it hit the left side of my car. The gash is on the left side, so I'm assuming that did it. My front left wheel is the last place i'd scrape a curb, becuase that's the part of the car i'm most aware of. So it was crap on the road.
Can some places fill in gashes, and maybe polish it up and paint it to make it look a lot better?
Oh, and as far as the car wash. They put your car in nuetral and it rolls along, as people hand wash it. So it's partial hand wash.

Re: Agg! Huge Gash in 18" wheels!
Yeah...there are places that do that. I just spoke with one guy in the DC area. He actually does it for the dealer where I got mine from and he did my front rim before I picked up the car since they got road rash when they took it off the truck!
At a glance, it looks brand new, but when I'm washing it by hand, I can feel a very slight gritty surface. Almost like very very fine sandpaper. Still looks like the other rims tho.
I was told this is expected due to the way the rim is repaired. A possible suggestion was to try a coat of wax to make it more like the factory clearcoat on the rim... *shrug*
Anyways, I just spoke to the guy yesterday since I was dumb and don't know how to park...approx $75 for minor repairs per rim.

Re: Agg! Huge Gash in 18" wheels!
Has anyone been able to get there rim sucessfully fixed. Meaning that the paint matched, the only option i have right now is to buy a new rim or just buy a new set of entirly different rims.

My front drivers side rim was repaired without issues. Like I said in a previous post, the only noticable difference is by feel. Otherwise, it looks exactly the same as my other stock rims.
